This graphic is only two years old, and Boquita fans are already going around claiming "70 titles, 70 titles!". The only thing with more inflation than Boca's title count is the Argentine peso.
Speaking about inflated. Those Independiente titles, though. Weren’t those from constantly getting invited to the Copa semis. Lol. Still irks me that they got some nerve naming their stadium Libertadores de America.
With the help of the media, who just went along with Boca’s changes to the historical count and spread these numbers like wildfires, they magically jumped to 70. Turns out they suddenly began counting their literal amateur titles as official championships, as well as adding random trophies to their tallies such as the Copa Estimulo, the Copa George VI, the Copa de Honor Cousenier, and a bunch of other phony tournaments. If they were us they would have counted that Copa BBVA title we won vs them in the Azteca in 2014, the Copa Euroamericana (Sudamericana vs Europa League winner) title we won vs Sevilla in 2015, and a bunch of other similar cups. After Boca began counting these bs titles, other Argentine clubs demanded that amateur titles count (as it helps from a marketing standpoint) and AFA went along with it, that’s why you see teams like Racing also suddenly having 18 domestic titles, even though we all know they only won the league a fraction of those times. To be fair, even the graphic I posted above isn’t ideal as it still counts fluff tournaments that were official (such as Copa Argentina, Copa Ibarguren, etc.). I persoanlly like to go by the traditional counts: Primera Division league titles, and the international tournaments that truly matter (Libertadores, Intercontinentales, Sudamericanas). In those counts we are up 35 vs. 28 in domestic league titles, while the bosteros lead the international count (6 vs. 11; 4 vs. 6 Libertadores). Everything else is just side competitions..
There you go again. Dissing Copa Argentina. It takes skill beating the likes of Central Norte with our C-team after having a night of hookers and blow.
