Listed below are the remaining schedules for the teams battling it out for CL and UEFA spots. Newcastle Utd has the easiest schedule and barring a total collapse, is almost assured a spot in next season's Champions League. Chelsea has a tough match on the road this weekend against Aston Villa who are 9-6-2 at home. Should Chelsea lose and Everton win, Chelsea will have 60 pts and Everton 59 pts entering their key showdown next weekend at Stamford Bridge. ............................Current Standings .............................Home.....Away .............................W-L-T....W-L-T.....Pts....Place Newcastle United...14-2-1.....5-8-3.......61......3rd Chelsea................10-2-4.....7-5-5.......60.......4th Everton.................10-1-5.....6-8-3.......56.......5th Liverpool.................8-1-8.....7-7-2.......55.......6th Blackburn...............9-3-5.....5-6-5.......52.......7th ..........Everton's Remaining Opponents ............................Opponent's Record ...............................Home.....Away Liverpool (H)...........................7-7-2.....55......6th Chelsea (A).............10-2-4..................60......4th Aston Villa (H)........................1-9-6.....38.....14th Fulham (A)...............9-5-3...................38.....15th Manchester Utd (H).................7-4-6.....71......1st .........Newcastle's Remaining Opponents ............................Opponent's Record ...............................Home.....Away Fulham (A)...............9-5-3...................38.....15th Aston Villa (H).......................1-9-6......38.....14th Sunderland (A).........3-11-2..................19.....20th Birmingham City (H)...............4-9-4......38.....16th West Brom (A)..........3-4-9...................21.....19th .........Chelsea's Remaining Opponents ............................Opponent's Record ...............................Home.....Away Aston Villa (A)...........9-6-2..................38.....14th Everton (H)............................6-8-3......56......5th Fulham (H)............................1-10-5.....38.....15th West Ham (A)...........3-7-7...................32.....18th Liverpool (H)..........................7-7-2.......55......6th .........Liverpool's Remaining Opponents ............................Opponent's Record ...............................Home.....Away Everton (A)...............10-1-5..................56......5th Charlton Athletic (H)................6-7-4.....46.....10th West Brom (A)..........3-4-9...................21.....19th Manchester City (H).................5-9-4.....45.....12th Chelsea (A)..............10-2-4..................60......4th .......Blackburn Rovers' Remaining Opponents ............................Opponent's Record ................................Home.....Away Manchester Utd (A)....14-1-2..................71......1st Bolton Wanderers (H)...............3-10-4....35.....17th Leeds Utd (A)..............5-8-3..................38.....13th West Brom (H)........................2-13-2....21.....19th Tottenham Hotspur (A)..9-4-4.................47......8th
Beating the RS tonight is vital. If Chelsea could possibly lose to Villa....... I can't see us beating Chelsea, so I'd be happy with a draw. I very much doubt we'll finish any higher than fifth. I'd like to be surprised though!
*clutches derby ticket* it's all about getting the win today, then we can worry about going into the final few games - having bragging rights over liverpool wouldn't be bad either. chelsea away is a stinker...i'll take a point there regardless of how we get on today at liverpool. realistically, i think 5th is our best chance of grabbing a european place. the team i'm watching most closely isn't chelsea but is blackburn, they're motoring at the moment.
We have the hardest remaining games in the Prem. It will be a miracle if we get in the Champions League. If we finish fourth I think it's...... £8.5 million ($13.4 million) Premiership prize money for finishing 4th. £10 million ($15.7 million) (Garanteed: If Everton get in the First group stage of the Champions League) That's how much is at stake.

Another poor performance sees us fall further behind the teams above us. However, the results for teams below us are slightly more favourable. Chelsea............63 Newcastle........62 Liverpool..........61 Everton...........56.........GD......+1 Blackburn.........53.........GD.....+4 Spurs..............50.........GD.....-1 Southampton...48..........GD.....+2 (Game in hand) Its now just a case of clinging on to our UEFA cup place. Blackburn are obviously the biggest threat. They have a tricky game away at Leeds who are now very much in the relegation fight. Unfotunately our next opponents, Villa, are playing well at the moment as are Fulham our following game. Hopefully just 1 win from our remaining 3 games will be enough.
I've read that the Premier League is supposed to be sending a "fair play" team to the UEFA Cup next year. Anyone know if Everton would qualify for the fair play UEFA berth should they finish out of the top 6?
Manchester City are set to qualify for it, and Kevin Keegan has said that they don't deserve to be in Europe next season. He said that 7th position should be awarded a UEFA Cup spot instead and he's right.
With 2 red card in the derby game? Not likely. Yes, City will get it. Also, some bad news, I just realised that if Liverpool get into the Champions League and we still finish 6th we won't be in Europe. Remember the UEFA cup qualifications. 3 teams. FA Cup winners, League cup winners and next in the league. We would only get the UEFA birth by finishing in 6th as Liverpool finishing 5th have already qualified by other means. Basically we've got to hope Newcastle and Chelsea keep winning. Newcastle have got Sunderland next and although it's their derby game the Mackems couldn't score against me and my mum at the moment. From all accounts Liverpool weren't great today or against us so maybe that 4th place is beyond them. It would be too much to bear if they not only beat us but their successful Champions League qualification keeps us out of Europe.
From what I've read 1. CL (1st Group Stage) 2. CL (1st Group Stage) 3. CL 4. CL 5. UEFA Cup 6. UEFA Cup Doesn't matter if Liverpool finish 5th or 4th, Everton will still get a UEFA Cup placing. (If they finish 6th or 5th). Liverpool will have to give up their UEFA spot anyway, and I don't think Man Utd will take it.
Doh!! You're right of course. If Liverpool qualify for the Champions League another UEFA Cup place will go to league positioning. Ignore previous post. I'm so stressed out by our woeful midfield displays I'm talking shite.
Re: How much dosh? well, it's meant to be rougly half a million quid for each league position. so if £8.5m is right for 4th, we can expect about £7.5m for 6th. i'd take that as for UEFA cup monies, i don't know exactly, but i know it isn't a fraction of the champions league kitty. i'd guess we might make £1m or so if we advance a few stages...???
