Are they really from Sweden? I read a review of their record that said they were actually from Austin and the whole Swedish thing was just a hoax. Since I was unsure of the real answer, what a better place to find the answer than the beloved Big Soccer boards. So is it Sweden or Texas?
the Hives are invovled in abunch of "hoaxes" that many people in the recording business know of. I better be quiet now or Footix will complain.
My friend who's Swedish sat with the Hives at the MTV VMA's and talked to them in Swedish, if she is to be believed. So if they're faking it, they're doing a pretty damn good job.
Ted's right. They actually are Black, and were formerly known as "New Edition" before coming up with their current schtick. An elaborate set of mirrors and lasers are utilized at their shows to create an "effect" that people think they are having fun and enjoying themselves, which we all know are wrong feelings to have when seeing a show.
What he said. They're much better. They won't show up to Congress in grunge gear and be laughed out of the chamber. As for the original question, I had heard a similar rumor. That would be great - Kaufman meets the music industry. RS
They really are Swedish as Michael K, dean of all Swedish musics, will attest. In fact, much of their earliest work was recorded in famed Tamborine Studios in Malmo. However their bio is filled with all kinds of fun fictional malarkey. I hope nobody thought Nicholas Arson was the guitar player's given name...
My 8-year old daughter does a killer "WHY ME?" scream when its sung on Main Offender... I took her to see Britney Spears (got some free tickets given to us) a few months back and she commented that she would like to see the Hives when they come to Dallas...
We will never let any band eclipse Pearl Jam. It won't ever happen. BTW, Freestyle is right, the Hives are better. The Hives won 86-74 last time they played and had dominated the series even before then. The ref was a pedophile however.
Swedes have a history of making US-friendly pop music, don't they? Who can forget Roxette and Ace of Base? Or Max Martin who wrote all those classic tunes for NSync, Backstreet Boys and Britney?
indeed they are swedish...they were on Burning Heart (swedish label) for a long time before making a mainstream name for themselves.
The Cardigans are fantastic. 'Life' is as good, perhaps an even better album than 'First Band on the Moon, if only because the Black Sabbath cover on 'Life' - Sabbath Bloody Sabbath - is infinitely better than the Black Sabbath cover on FBOTM - 'Iron Man', which I really don't like. As for the best Swedish band, here's all you need to know, end of story. http://www.michaelkoch.net/bonving
So underrated that I couldn't even get the name right. I'll have to check out Life. Snowsuit - I would've mentioned ABBA in my US-friendly Swedes list, but it just didn't seem right to utter their name in the same breath as Ace of Base and Max Martin.
