I had started a similar thread around this time last year. Along with tons of other threads, though, it was wiped out during the BigSoccer.com server wipe of Summer 2002.       So here we are again, taking a trip down memory lane (before many of you were even born... damn, I'm old! )...
      I'm a virtual time-machine (but without the DeLorean ).       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Notice how in each of the pictures, there's at least one player with a beard?       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Cool pic, PaulChild! Thanks!       Got any more vintage Quakes pics to share?       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Those were the days. I remember getting dragged to Spartan as a lad ! I wonder if they'll have another NASL Quakes reunion this year. Last years was pretty cool. Hopefully, our team will stay in tact and build a good following. My 8 yr. old son was coached by EZ Perez one session, when he found out he was an ex-Quake he was stoked ! Our future may be brighter than our past - Go effing Quakes !
Vintage Stuff Hmmm......how 'bout you try this: http://homepage.mac.com/scott386/quakes/GBest81.mpg I bet you can figure out what it is based on the file name. (Warning: the file is 16MB.) I was fortunate to see it happen live, and I still get chills watching it....... --PaulChild
Re: Vintage Stuff       I was at that game too and I do remember that goal (I was a few months shy of being ten years old). This truly was before many of the other posters here were born... damn, I'm old!       Thanks again, PaulChild!       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
just shy of 10 in 1981?? am i reading that correctly? HA!! i'm older than you!! wait...why am i smiling about that?? thanks for the pics! my family moved to minnesota in the summer of 1976 (a few months shy of MY tenth birthday); i recall going to both outdoor quakes games at spartan, and indoor games at the cow palace! then, when we moved here, dad took me to my first Kicks game. i was hooked; incurably. GO QUAKES!! (a buddy of mine (DCSiouxfan on BS) has some vintage pics of the Kicks; i've forgotten the URL. i'll have to ask)
Well, just shy of 10 in the summer of 1981. I turned 10 later that year... as a matter of fact, on the same date that MLS Cup 2003 will be held this year.       Older than me? How is that possible?       No problem - it's cool that there are still a few of us NASL fans left!       And by all means, post those Kicks pics if you can find them.       GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
Wow, another NASL Earthquakes fan!      I'm hoping for another NASL Quakes reunion this year too. It would also be neat to see an MLS game where the current Earthquakes and the opponents wear retro-NASL kits.      That's cool to hear, chas1!      That was also the sense I got reading this 1977 book.      GO EARTHQUAKES!!! -G
That clip alone is worth buying the "NASL Goals of the Year" video through SLS (is it still available thru BigSoccer...I think that's how I got mine?). I remember hearing that goal on the radio. Hal Ramey going nuts. I couldn't be at the game because I was up on the Peninsula and working DURING MY SEMESTER BREAK FROM SJSU YOU YOUNGSTERS! Goods...in the words of that immortal Frank Capra picture "It's A Wonderful Life"..."Oh, George, you were just born old."
