Twice in one year! He played very well last night. He did a good job of holding the ball up and linking up with other players to bring them into the attack. He was also very good at winning the ball in the air on goal kicks and clearances. Even when he didn't win them he didn't allow the defender a clean header which allowed us to win a lot of second balls. He also made a few key clearances in the box. His defensive work is highly underrated by general US Soccer fans. Unfortunately, he failed to do the one things he's paid to do, put the ball in the back of the net. Had he finished that 1v1 opportunity, he would have silenced a lot of his doubters when it comes to the national team picture. With that said, I still think he has a solid chance of being called up for some qualifiers. I kind of hope he doesn't because we really can't afford to miss him for anymore games. I guess we'll see how guys like Sargent and Siebatcheu play in the beginning of their seasons in Europe. Sargent is already off to a hot start with 2 goals in his first league game.
His defending from the front is excellent, and his defending when he drops deep to help is way more than is expected of a #9. There was a point where he was 20 yards from his own goal, very late, and he simply took away a pass from Mexico's left side to the middle, and the attack eventually just fizzled out. Things most people don't notice.
When you are as accomplished as Eternal Champion Gyasi Zardes, you obviously expect to score every game. But it’s to help your team, not to silence “doubters” or some jamokes on a message board. Gyasi has earned the respect and trust of his teammates, staff, snd managers. And I’m thrilled to see him reward that trust and celebrate another championship with his teammates. Glory to Columbus. Up the STATES. Let’s get another one, Gyasi.
This is what I love about the guy. It’s very reminiscent of Brian McBride. Everyone remembers the headers but few remember his linking play and defending from the front.
Mrs KG would be howling with laughter right now, were she home. The first time we were in Germany together, we were driving along Lake Constance and realized we were in Friedrichshafen and it was lunch time. Saw a nice place to eat--and across the street was the Zeppelin Museum. So we were not in any hurry and decided to visit. They have a life-sized mockup of parts of the lounge and staterooms of the Hindenburg. Oh, and it includes those windows.... I'd go over to look out (it looks out over the train station, actually) and Mrs KG gets this evil grin on her face--looks at me, and says "No Ticket!"
Women give birth in 9 months under normal circumstances. Zardes brings 3 trophies home in the same amount of time.
To the husbands with wives whom have borne your children, try to stay away with saying things like this comparison. And I love Gyasi!
I'm sad for Gyazi. He might miss his chance at playing in the USMNT WCQ, which would be more joyful than playing on this Crew team right now. Instead, he'll get to rehab a bad hammy.
What a man. What a player. I’ve heard his goals are only a creation of being in the right place at the right time, that they are dependent on his teammates. I’d like to thank all ten of his teammates for his goals tonight, especially the second where he just happened to be in the right place at the right time.
Credit where credit is due, his second goal was a thunder strike. Had a great view of it from the Nordecke. Impressive.
I have not watched soccer in months. This morning I watched the game highlights knowing Gyasi scored two goals (group texts keep me updated). Wow. Those goals bring a tear to my eye and a smile to my face. What a joy to have Gyasi Zardes play for Columbus.
