Would like to know what you consider to be the best live act of the moment.
For me it is Millionaire, Belgian Rock band extraordinaire and a sister band of the queens of the stone age...

No concert event is the same as a Jimmy Buffett concert.

That's wild. "Don't Fence Me In" is a very traditional country tune. "Oh give me land, lots of land, with the starry skies above / Don't fence me in / I want to ride in the wide open country that I love / Don't fence me in."

I wasn't watching the commercial, but it was on in the background as I was doing something else. When I heard the sound & vocals I said "they sound like the Mooney Suzuki" but by the time I looked up to watch it it was over. What does the Roseland sign say? Does the band make an appearance?

The sign says "The Mooney Suzuki" and some fake show dates. Its just Giambi trying to hit the ball over landmarks in NYC with the distance marked on the landmarks. Its a pretty nice commercial even without The Mooney Suzuki.

BTW Check out the new tour dates:

I'll prob make the Brooklyn one since its the closest. Still wondering wether or not to make a road trip out of the Philly show. If anyone else doubts my comment on them being one of the best live acts today, check out one of their shows. Even if you dont think theyre great, I can atleast guarrantee you a good time. Also note the freaking schedule, they are playing just about everynight from here until the ends of OCT.

No band appearance. Just theur name on the marquee.

Speaking of Mooney Suzuki, (I know I'll catch some flack for this) the Hives was my favorite show of the past year. I'm not exaggerating when I say you don't have to like the music to have hella good time at a Hives show.

The Roots and Ben Folds (Five or otherwise) put on good shows as well.

Aside: I wonder how Steinbrenner feels about one his players doing a Nike ad, considering how much Adidas pays every year to outfit the team.

The Delta 72 with The Mooney Suzuki is one of my all-time favorite double-bills. I couldn't believe that about half the crowd left after the Suzuki, though, as the Delta 72 can (could? where are they now?) rip it up with the best of them.

About that tour -- 31 shows in 37 days, including a string of 15 straight nights from October 6-20. That's just insane. But no Maxwell's.

Footix would know this -- is Birch Hill the dinner theater, or is that Club Bene in Sayreville?

Club Bene is/was the dinner theatre...

Birch Hill is one of the all-time great rock dives of the Northeast. It's a medium sized room, great PA, nice sound, lots of bar-hangin' room in the back, security guys who know how to work a show correctly, and a beautifully wierd clientele made up of Central Jersey mullets, Pineys, South Jerseyans who'd rather not drive to Philly, New Yorkers & North Jerseyans who'd rather not put up with NYC crowds, prices & late start times, and locals who look like they haven't left the club for years. Bonus points for being adjacent to a club called "Stingray's" which from time to time has been a strip club, a disco, another rock club, a gay bar, and a latin club.

Since the owner's last (and about fifteenth) bust for serving booze to minors, the Birch Hill is now known as a "concert hall" rather than "night club" and doesn't serve alcohol, which makes the sizable parking lot into kind of a covert tailgate party before shows. They are known for overselling the joint when bigger bands play there, and when I was there last to see Motorhead in June, you could actually feel the body heat of the packed-like-sardines crowd once you got in the door.

Of all the shows I've seen recently, I've gotta agree that the mighty Suzuki is the best live band. I've seen 'em a few times over the past 2 yrs, and they get better with each show. And since I've seen them with The Hives, I can say that Pelle may be the best frontman, but overall, The MS are the best band, and Suzuki front man Sammy James, Jr. is cool as hell.

The Brooklyn show should be a madhouse.

I'll be at the Birch Hill show for sure.

Wow - The Suzuki AND Sweden's answer to The Donnas, coming to Toad's. Excellent - this will be the first show that'll interest me enough to go to Toad's in 5 years or so. Used to be a pretty good venue a few years ago (Best Toad's memory; seeing 'The Bends'-era Radiohead and then Jeff Buckley in the same week there) but they've really fallen off the map in the last few years.

Sahara Hotnights are supposed to be fun live, though I've not seen them.

Michael--go to that show, and I'll guarantee you your ticket price back if you don't become a huge MS fan.

The Barenaked Ladies put on a good show.

And I'm speaking of the Canadian Band...not the girls at your local strip club.

I hear that. Club Bene is now called "Krome" and books hardcore and babyband punk shows.

Old Man Bene's baked ziti used to rule!
