Radek Martinek signed a one year deal. Unfortunately, he got a paper cut and is out for 30 games

You were too late for that when you posted.

Anyhoo... Billy Smith & co. wanted to be Habs so bad but just fell short. If it's not a Gretzky Oilers team, it's a Habs team from the 70s or so. Ain't nothing new come along to match that but pure thug size. Anyone wanna reward thug size, have at it.

They haven't moved to Brooklyn yet (2015 IIRC), twas all I was referring to.

The late fifties habs teams were juggernauts to be sure, as were the mid sixties leaf teams and seventies habs - but the 80s Isles teams set the bar for winning championships in the modern era, that I can't seeing being surpassed in the salary cap era.

I'll save my comments on Smith et al as this is the the Islanders thread.

Smith was an ornery son of a bitch, a hack man and a flopper. And I was very happy that he was ours.

I remember my uncle taking my cousin and I to Isles games when Smith was with the team. I wasn't an Isles fan, but I was a big fan of Smith.

Great game last night. Only an unlucky screen was the difference.

Oh Matty. How I missed trading barbs with you. I never come on here anymore as the last revamp of this site pretty much ruined it for me but of course seeing this thread brings back old memories.

As you're well aware, the first meeting between New York hockey royalty and the little amateur operation you have running out on Long Island takes place tomorrow. Unfortunately, our roles are reversed and for some reason, we're staring up at you in the standings. But of course, standing never really mattered when these two teams get together and I expect nothing but good old fashioned hockey to take place tomorrow.

Seriously though, it's nice to see the Isles do well. As much as I shit on your club, and rightfully so, I want them to succeed enough so that they stay. Because life without you guys just wouldn't really be the same, now would it?

Anyhoo, here's hoping for a fine tilt tomorrow night and 2 points in regulation for the only New York hockey team that matters.

    POTVIN SUCKS!!!!

    Missed you too, buddy.

I just might with the way the Rangers are playing. They have the same goal scoring problems as last season except our identity of defensive responsibility and grind it out hockey seems to have escaped us.

I won't say anything about today's game. I'm not that mean.

Jack Capuano needs to go and go quickly. We have no defensive ability outside the 1st line.

I've asked myself that very question for about the last 8 seasons - the only answer I can fathom - is the payoff will be incredible if it happens.
