My climber friend just returned from the western NC area last night. She finally realized that half of the emergency responders she was dealing with, were in fact, FEMA. Maybe it was the Army helicopters with pallets of supplies that tipped her off. I am seeing a lot of people on social media posting that "something weird is going on" because they are being diverted to other areas. The truth is people are getting in the way. People with good intentions, but going in with chainsaws and ATVs when people actually need diapers and dry socks. People who are being diverted because the road is closed and dangerous. Or power lines are down. FEMA and the National Guard don't need to rescue people who go down the wrong road and get stuck, needing to be rescued. The better half of my brain thinks that the MAGA Facebook people I keep tabs on don't understand how the order of operations go or that random donations of food, water, or other goods are better handled by voluntary agencies. But we all know that is a lie. How are these fcuksticks making it about their ego instead of the issue at hand.
Indeed. And like cult members they will 100% buy the lies about Biden/Harris keeping aid away, FEMA becoming some sort of Gestapo, etc even when they see with their own eyes that this isn't the case.
Not so sure about the MAGA lie. I can across a few legit sources saying that volunteers were being requested. It was vague, but it was coming from news sources I actually pay attention to as opposed to places like Fox.
Agreed. But my point was that the messages were vague. For me, this was something like 20 years ago, but I flew in to visit my uncle the day after an EF3 hit about 50 miles north of where he lived. He asked if I wanted to join him, and it was a definite. What he did was load up his chainsaw, a bunch of rope, gloves, and other stuff, and stopped at the gas station to fill up a couple of containers of gas (one which was donated) and we drove up. It was a relatively small operation, but there were still a lot of places that were not covered. The local emergency management team was there and they had everything set up, but still, people were just showing up with their equipment. I can only imagine how it would be for something the size of Helene, with roads and bridges washed out, and rivers that changed course. Well meaning people can be stupid in an effort to help.
I was in Houston during Harvey and saw excellent, coordinated volunteer response. It's crazy that all these years later it could be so disorganized. I get that it is far more rural but that can be overcome with a little elbow grease ahead of time.
The damage to North Carolina was not well forecast. Plus, they have no previous experience, whereas Houston knows it is going to be affected by Hurricanes with some regularity.
Exactly. These social media posters are sending out videos that it is strange they are being sent to point B but they showed up at point A. Or diverted to the Red Cross instead of trying to wander into a FEMA HQ with a landing zone, trying to add their stuff to a Chinook helicopter These people need to listen, have a plan and point of contact before they show up. Not just wander around It also looks like the Media Comms writer for https://www.facebook.com/NOAAClimateGov is at their breaking point.
The triple whammy of Frances, Ivan, Jeanne in 2004 counts as experience for those of us who were there. It wasn't this, but it was fair warning. I helped dig out some of the same areas most ********ed up now.
It's up to the States to develop emergency plans. The feds are there as backup. If you are going to have volunteers why not register them in advance and have them report in before heading off to help people? That way you know where people are helping and you can dispatch people to where they are needed most.

Uncle Miltie has a small eye with a very low barometric pressure under 900 mb. Hope he loses steam soon. 8PM EDT: This is nothing short of astronomical. I am at a loss for words to meteorologically describe you the storms small eye and intensity. 897mb pressure with 180 MPH max sustained winds and gusts 200+ MPH. This is now the 4th strongest hurricane ever recorded by pressure on… pic.twitter.com/QFdqFYFI7o— Noah Bergren (@NbergWX) October 8, 2024
Sure. They keep electing climate change deniers as governors, congresscritters and state legislators. It's what they want to believe.
A friend in Florida just explained to me that the hurricanes are the result of intentional weather control. Something to do with EMPs and chemtrails. I'm supposed to do my own research, so I thought I'd start here.

A decade or so back there was a serious storm hitting the Bay Area. Not hurricane, but like a once-in-10-years kind of storm. Seriously windy and lots of rain. And I was walking by the Embarcadero in San Francisco because I am a crazy person and I wanted a closer look at a Navy ship that had taken shelter in the Bay. No one else was around except a couple of city water department guys in their truck presumably pre-positioned for inevitable calls once things started overflowing. Then I came across something weird. There was a couple who looked and acted like marijuana was one of the 4 basic food groups and they were carrying a 10-foot dingy with a mast made of 1x2 boards and a sail made of a plastic housing-construction vapor barrier. And they wanted to go into the Bay. I appreciate maker culture and blind optimism as much as the next fellow, but the waves were white tipped and the winds were well over 50mph. Fortunately the civic-minded water department guys got out of their truck and tried very hard to tell those people they were not going out there in that little tiny boat. The argument lasted long enough for a good gust to hit and snapped that mast like a toothpick. That ended that. A couple of lives were saved that day, I think.
I know Bill Gates is supposed to have made the microchips they injected into us during COVID-19, but who made the Hurricane Machine? People need to know the truth! Was is the same company that made the Jewish Space Laser? And how does one even get such a government contract to begin with?
