MLS should thank the Galaxy for the many highlight moments we provide for the league. Yet so far…not so much as a word of thanks or clap on the back. This team gives and gives and asks for nothing in return. Time and again we’ve seen the Galaxy shoulder the burden of this thankless task and carry it into the new millennium. The self-sacrifice almost makes me weep…literally. Last night was yet another example: In an amazing display of unity and cohesion, the Galaxy dazzled us again by allowing Justin Mapp of the Chicago Fire to weave his way through a grain sack full of Galaxy players to score a goal. What people don’t know is that the Galaxy back line executed this pre-rehearsed maneuver with such poise, craft, precision, and dash of “Ya gotta be fvckin’ kidding me…!” that it actually looked like Mapp dribbled through every Galaxy defender on the roster. Goosebumps, folks…goosebumps. Other examples of our selfless, giving nature: Eddie Gaven ring a bell? We made that kid! Freddie Adu? Please…who steps up to the plate just when all the ‘Adu mania’ starts to die down? The multitude of Galaxy cast-offs that have moved on to become crucial players for their new teams? This one is so obvious that it's no longer possible to keep it under wraps. Every great player in MLS started out with the Galaxy...all of them... How about San Jose? Does anyone actually believe that the Galaxy lost to the Earthquakes after going up 4-0 aggregate? We took that bullet for the league in a last ditch attempt to save that sorry franchise. That’s right…gave up a consecutive championship right there. And the masterstroke??!! - The Road Game Record - Here the team is at its finest. I ask you…does any other team go so far out of its way - even to the point of losing just about every single game - to provide home team fans with a positive experience? It’s nothing short of brilliant. Aside from DC fans that is…because well, even our charitable nature has limits…and they suck! (as Donovan would say) The only thing out of character is the appointment of Steve Sampson as coach. We all knew that guy was a lemon. Not even a team so steeped in subterfuge and misdirection like the Galaxy could hide that fact.
