    Why is this fanbase and general organization so terrified to try a 4-4-2

    The problem is not the use of a 4-2-3-1 per se, but the type players used and how they were used in this formation. The double pivot/ use of two defensive midfielders is really where most of the attacks should start from. This formation was used by Portugal in the 2006 WC and it worked great for them. The problem I saw with the team was again, this is my perspective, was they were the two "wingers" used either Neto, Felix, Leão, Conceição etc. were played so far wide that it created massive gaps but also very predictable. So link up play kept stalling out. It was like they played in this C shaped formation with a 41 year old Ronaldo by himself which for the defense is easy to defend. This made it difficult to for Bruno to be the play maker because the only person he can link up with would be with Ronaldo to pass forward. It was so weird to me to play like this because you have 2 excellent fullbacks that can play those areas for the attack so well and with Leão, Neto, Felix, etc. It pretty much made the wing very, for a lack of a better word, "congested" and again predictable. I really feel that the "wingers" should have played a few yards more in the middle of the field and this would have probably created more positive plays and link up between Bruno and Ronaldo as well.

    It was like they were playing a 4-3-3 hybrid with a 4-2-3-1. It was just so weird. I personally like the 4-2-3-1 but it needs the right tactics and players for it to work. I mean you can really say that about all formations. But in the end. Felix is not a winger. Leão is but really is redundant when you have someone like Nuno Mendes playing on the same side and Leão is playing that far wide. I just think Martinez was forcing a square peg into a round hole the whole tournament.

    Agreed. I think this current squad is better suited for this formation. Portugal currently does not have strong wing play except from Conceiçao. Leão and Neto are both hit or miss when it comes to consistency.

    That’s a lot better than a round of 16 exit.

    Anyways, 1 euro and 2 nations leagues

    Showing off about not winning is pretty standard loser mentality.

    Anyways, not on the pitch and no one cares about nations

    but ********it, ban Vitinha for life for being not as good at not winning as Ronaldo and figo I guess.

    Why would I follow along to something not relevant to the conversation dummy

    You said Portugal needed a phenom, that isn’t the same as an exceptional player. Ronaldo was a phenom. Vitinha is an exceptional player. My whole point is you need a team of great players. Your whole point is you like to jerk off to individuals. You just co-opted my argument. Your dumbass can’t even keep up with your own bs.

    Still waiting to hear how Ronaldo is wide open but also constantly covered by 4 defenders btw. Still waiting to hear why having zero successful dribbles in two world cups is actually good. Still waiting to hear why scoring against Uzbek is great but against Switzerland is bad. Still waiting to hear if you would want Paulinho starting if he was the fourth best scorer in Saudi Arabia this year.

    Or nah, just keep saying espnfc and cry that the media isnt jerkin your boy off to the level you deem appropriate

    you crazy. lol!
    Vitinha/Neves is the future.

    Bernardo/Bruno need to be left out, bye! Adios!

    you want identity….

    * Ramos as forward.
    * Felix/Mateus to CAM.
    * Leao/Chico at wing (depth: Quendy/Mora)
    * JP as permanent CDM. He is exactly what we need down the middle. Only 30.

    back four: Mendes/Quaresma/Dias/JC

    this is an explosive team (if you want goals.)

    He's wide open then we don't pass allow opposition to come back then he's covered.

    You would know this if you know. You actually watched a game and had a brain.

    Imagine being told in 2002 that there's another golden generation coming and then finding out we have one Euro for it.

    Imagine Martinez gets another international gig with a weaker team and ends up beating Portugal in the next euro or World Cup.. That would absolutely be the most Portuguese sh*t I’ve ever heard…

    Just a random shower thought: why do we always end up drawing France or Spain in every single World Cup and Euro.. It’s like clockwork since 2010..

    Not trying to sound whiny but Portugal always gets the gauntlet of death even after their group of death.. I don’t get it.. We are usually a pot 1 team always too.. I see us drawing Italy finally for the euro. We have avoided each other so many times in major tournaments. Please lord give us Italy.. I want some real competition for the qualifiers also. The nations league games with Wales Norway and Denmark just aren’t that exciting.. I wanna see what JJ is all about. I want to see our new squad tested in the Euro qualifiers..

    Eh man I’m sorry but Vitinha is shit. Bruno is shit. You cannot trust these guys for the NT after this World Cup. If I’m JJ I’ll pass on those guys. J Neves might be the only one worth a damn and even he has a bad attitude/questionable decisions. The whole midfield just got exposed BAD.. Very shaky.. I said it from the beginning, why the F*CK was Palhinha left behind.. I hope he’s laughing at Bald Spanish Roberto and the FPF.. Ridiculous decisions to bring dung beetle Samu, Guedes and a 4th GK.. lmfaoooo

    Never forget that bald Spanish Roberto decided to bring a FOURTH GOALKEEPER TO THE WORLD CUP… And left behind world class players like Palhinha, Mora, M Fernandes, Pote, Edu.. All so he can bring Guedes and semedo and other players to just sit them on the bench.. Wow what a shame. Where was Trincao and Nunes this whole tournament? Never saw the pitch.. Spag Romar should be brought up on charges and thrown in prison after that..
