Hey. So i was sitting around thinking about our offensive woes, and it occurred to me that maybe what we need is a new assistant coach more offensive minded to bring in some of that flair that we so badly need.

one person came to mind - preki.

yes he can still play, but the clock is ticking, and we could do a lot worse than have someone help our mediocre midfielders develop some more attacking sensibilities.

Next season, wouldn't it be nice to have a player/coach who could help to organize the offense and occassionally come in to lead by example? I think that as long as we are stuck with four or five midfielders who all play the same - none of whom have much in the way of creativity, we might do well to have someone on our staff who can help inspire that.

Klein, Gomez, Jewsbury, Walsh, and diego all need to pass better, take people on, and create for our forwards. none of them have "stepped up" as we are all so fond of saying. so what is the solution? Gansler is one of the better defensive organizers in MLS, but has only once had a team that focused on offense, and that was last year, where we gave up goals and got beaten against the odds by a san jose team who was on the ropes.

lastly, as we look ahead to our road hell, I think it would be nice to see what Stephenson can bring to the game in midfield, and if he isnt producing in practice (i have no idea) then we absolutely need to push for goals... and then counterattack.

as my brother said - we look scared to commit to the attack. As long as that is the way we are playing, we will be lucky to win any games. We had several opportunities that went begging last game, and that has got to change. Wolff is not playing up to his abilities and that has got to be due to the fact that no one is setting anything up in midfield so Arnaud and Wolff are left to their own devices up top. that can not continue.

ok. so what do you guys think?

My first gut reaction to this was that assistant coaches are there to ASSIST the head coach, and help him implement the head coach's vision and plans. If you really want a complete change, the head coach has to go.

And who knows if Preki has any coaching ambitions anyway?

    yeah. no doubt.

but i think IF preki does have coaching aspirations, he is going to need a breaking in stage. an assistant coach spot would give him that.

dont get me wrong, I am not a fan of Gansler, I am just thinking out loud about alternatives. Replacing him with an established, successful coach would be the easiest move.

what do you think about an immediate solution to our midfield problems? Do you think we have a midfield problem? I see it as a very serious issue for us...

Did Peter Nowak assist anywhere? Why don't we do the player-coach thing and fire Bob now. :D Or, let Preki coach and have Bob try his hand at midfield. What do you think a Preki formation would be? A 1-8-1?
