All the roster talk about 2006 has got me looking forward. One thing that strikes me is the potential speed of our squad as a whole. From back to front the 2010 US world cup squad will have outstanding pace. ---------Johnson---------- --DMB-------------Adu--- ---------Landon----------- --Spector------R.Clark--- -Pearce----------Wynne- -----Gibbs---Gooch------ ---------Howard---------- Bench: Gomez Rolfe Feilhaber Dolo Convey Mapp Alston Ward Sarkodie Dempsey Maybe an African team or Brazil will be very close to us but it's something to look forward to. No team could play a high line against us, we need to get used to beating teams with packed defenses.
I see something like this: ---------------Howard-------------- ----Spector----Gooch----Marshall--- ----------------Clark--------------- ---Quaranta---Dempsey---DMB------ --------------Donovan-------------- ----------Johnson----Adu----------- Bench: Reis, Guzan, Bocanegra, Gibbs, Wynne, Albright, Szetela, Feilhaber, Mapp, Convey, Jaqua, Gomez
I really like that team, but I would change Spector in place of Pearce and Convey where you had spector.
i also like it with spector, but wynne doesnt belong in that group, and mapp should be in that wing position with landon at attacking mid, i hope adu becomes a great player, but he isnt showing anything of a starting national teamer yet
Adu is better than Mapp right now so i wouldn't start projecting Mapp to start and Adu not. Did you see Adu's game today yet?
I'd go on a limb and say that by 2,010 Mapp will replace Beasley on the left and either Convey, Rolfe or ... gulp, Rossi, will replace Donovan in the middle (heck, I'd replace Donovan with Convey now). Brian Ching, if he ever gets away from his wife's university obligations, will be the center forward and Eddie Johnson will play off him. Mike Bradley will be rotating in the defensive midfield with Jonathan Spector, Steve Cherundolo and Benny Feilhaber. Johann Smith will be the right attacking mid. Chad Marshall will partner Gooch in central defense. Joe Cannon will be in goal.
why should we be thinking wynne at this point, has done nothing, when he gets his chance to do something, then maybe we should talk about him
Mapp could replace Beasley at an attacking position but DMB will find his way on to the field. If the PSV type interest in Mapp pans out it could improve his game but as of today he doesn't bring it in enough games, although I think he brings it in more games than other Fire fans give him credit for. The idea behind this thread was to put out a reasonable lineup for 2010 that maximized speed and maybe other than Mapp for Adu I think I did.
