I still have DTV so am covered with games on FS1 and FS2, although if there were storms, I'd be screwed since Fox isn't putting any games on their app. Meanwhile, the first two days were set with feed commentary. Then Fox was up to their old tricks putting the US guys on games again. I guess with Strong and Holden, they need to put these guys to work but I assume they're paying Donny Baarns and Cobi Jones to freelance. Why? Just use the feed.
Here's a rule of thumb: if the game is on FS2, they go with the world feed, if it's on FS1 they use their own announcers.
You'd think they could use the SAP, but they still haven't figured that trick out in 20+ years of it being an option.
There's been plenty of times when other channels/outlets have been used for alternate presentations (with different announcers), but you'd think it wouldn't be *that* hard or expensive to use SAP for world feed announcers.
If they're paying for their own announcers, why would they want to pay a penny more to provide another audio feed in the same language with somebody that's not their announcer? This isn't the MNF ManningCast where the network hires well-known personalities to try to attract an audience with an alternate production--it's an anonymous British guy on the world feed.
Ya gotta think that there's at least a few times when the channel elects to go with their own guys AND the world feed guy is offered with the broadcast. Or is it "you can have our guys for an additional fee" every time? How many times did Fox Soccer Channel announcers "send it out to ______ and ______ at the stadium" when they could have used their guy in the studio? As cheap as they were, was that a bundle deal (video and commentary for one price) or did they pay extra?
In other news... I thought I posted this but...DirecTV will be negotiating with Fox for their TV channels which are set to expire in December. This includes Fox Business, Fox Deportes, Fox News, Fox Soccer Plus, Fox Sports 1, Fox Sports 2 and local channels if applicable. What channel do we think sunsets first: Fox Soccer Plus or Gol TV? At least Fox Soccer Plus is being funded by Fox and is included in various tiers because it can piggyback off FS1 and Fox News.
Spectrum has it on the sports pack Most likely the fate of Fox Soccer Plus as a la carte makes zero sense
At this point in time, if you're paying a la carte for FS+, why? Did you forget to cancel it? U-Verse has it a la carte because it took the place of Setanta Sports USA which was a la carte. I'm guessing it's in sports packs on providers that never had Setanta. IDK about DirecTV, but flashback to when they had FS+ in HD only during live events.
Huge rugby league fan who really wants to watch the Superleague is the only case I can think of (better subscription options exist for watching the NRL and AFL and those leagues are often on FS1 and FS2).
Hey look! There's actual soccer on FS+! Saturday, 10/26 at 3:30pm. US U-17 WNT against Nigeria in the U-17 FIFA WWC. FS1 is showing college football and FS2 is showing races. (At one point, Fox Business was an option for live sports, but we're talking about the U-17s here.)
Who here remembers Gus Johnson, that blithering idiot that Fox wanted to put as their main voice of whatever World Cup it was? Well, he landed as Fox's main voice of college football. If you don't know how college football is televised, the conferences sign deals with various channels to televise their teams home games. Certain conference/channel combos mean specific times. The games are selected similar to a draft. Ohio State University gets a lot of eyeballs. They've been a popular team for 20+ years and, as a result, they often go into the best timeslots ...and that means a ton of Gus Johnson. And now fans have a theory that he's tired of all the Ohio State games he got assigned to commentate on. He doesn't seem as excited to call "THE WORLD-FAMOUS OHIO STATE BUCKEYES" as he likes to bellow. https://awfulannouncing.com/fox/gus-johnson-boring-calls-ohio-state-purdue.html
I don't understand why Fox is the only channel using the world feed that can't figure out how to manage the stadium sounds underneath commentary so the stadium sounds don't sound like they are being blasted out of a metal, echo-laden tube. The engineers have not problems with this issue when using the US-based announcers and FUBO seems to have no problems with this issue. I hope ESPN gets the rights back to UEFA matches.
