Just got a 2 lb hunk of boneless leg of lamb...gonna make some Spiedies. Marinate for 2 days 1st though. Ps...it's a Binghamton thing!
Breading marinated chicken is certainly a choice... I'm just waiting to find out what my sister is marinating the chicken in for tomorrow so I can grill one more time.
Everything has been chickened to death. No self respecting Italian would put chicken parmigiana onna table. Shlomo ain't never putting chicken inna Reuben anytime soon either!! Ps...I do like the marinated thighs I get from a Vietnamese grocer!
I had the Bouncy Pork at the local Thai place and now I'm feeling a bit guilty My favriote thing about every Moo Deng video is how the adult hippos are so incredibly unbothered at all times pic.twitter.com/OlDkHHTA9J— Nature is Amazing ☘️ (@AMAZlNGNATURE) September 20, 2024
CNN tells us the 20 best American foods. I’m sure this article will cause no arguments here. https://www.cnn.com/travel/american-food-best-dishes-cuisine/index.html?mibextid=Zxz2cZ
I've had 19 of the 20, and like 17 of them. Some weird choices, though. I mean fried okra is good, but best American food?
It's a bold choice for a top 20, but fried okra done right is hard to beat, period. I'd choose it over fries, hash browns, tater tots, wedges, or any other fried veggie accompanying fast food. Then it doubles in old-school Southern dishes, sits between the collards and squash and you try to keep both away from it so it stays crunchy. It's tough to get just right --too much okra and not enough batter is the usual culprit-- but when you get it right, it's special. Now, boiled okra? That needs to be against the law I kind of like this 20- it doesn't default to some urbanite's Michelin list and it doesn't stay in the 50s with its definition of "American"- that would have been tough anyway, given that almost everything here is derived from a European or British or African dish.
You are allergic to a lot of things, tho, right? I can see where those might come into play. I would trade out Eggs Benedict for fried shrimp or oysters or scallops
Picked up some proper hot dog buns [top split] and Western Ma made apple cider donuts @ Trader Joe's. Then down to Aldi's for some "real" apple cider. Ps...took me 10 yrs to find this stuff!
This is where someone puts in a plug for moon pie, and laments the omission of pecan and potato pie from the list. I'll take potato over apple every day, and pecan is only behind because it kills people..
To non Southerners…”potato pie” means sweet potatoes, not the thing that had a famine in Ireland in 1840.
Love poached eggs on toast but can do without the Hollandaise. Fried shrimp and oysters are great. Scallops I find sort of boring.
I love hollandaise but am more careful about when I order a Benedict after hearing about how quickly it goes bad. I think it was Anthony Bourdain who said never order anything with hollandaise unless you’re at a restaurant that does a LOT of breakfast business. Last weekend I had a Benedict that was on a latke rather than an English muffin, which is kind of a brilliant idea. It was like having a base of really good hash browns.
Ever had grilled okra? When I get a mess of 'em from the garden, I put them (whole) on a skewer, brush with olive oil, season with a little black pepper, and throw them on the grill. Easy and not slimy at all. Best fried okra I ever had was at an Indian restaurant in Asheville (wonder if it's still there?). Sliced lengthwise really thin, fried crisp and coated with some exotic mix of spices.
