Newmans Own gets the job done. Though my wife is of Italian descent*, so when we have pasta with sauce, she usually will make it from scratch. Of course, half the time she makes pasta, we don’t have it with a tomato sauce.

*half Italian, half Irish. Thankfully, the cooking genes all come from the Italian side.

Something that I learned in the pandemic is here in europe all the tins of unmessed about tomatoes were always sold out due to hoarders (i buy 2 or 3 trays of 12 myself)

But back home, they were all unwanted and everyone had stripped the store of pre-seasoned tomatoes, tomato sauces etc

I don't really get why anyone would buy those?

I actually considered that but thought it might be too sweet.

Have tried store-bought? Most all of those are loaded with sugar.

I look at the organic stuff, which is usually about half the amount of sodium/per 1/2 cup (and also quite a bit less sugar). That works for me since I'm low sodium elsewhere.

And for you non-initiated, it is 1500mg for those not on low sodium. 1000mg for us who are low sodium.

Yeah, one reason we avoid most of them. Rao's doesn't use sugar, that's our general fave.

My son actually found the fresh sauce made with our romas too sweet. I thought he was nuts, it was the best kind of sweet.

I really hate it when I have to backtrack! I was in Aldi's yesterday and spotted some "Priano" spinach and ricotta manicotti. I figured...how bad can it be. Put some Rao's in bake dish, manicotti, then more Rao's topped off with "Liberal" amt of mozz and reggie parm [when it comes to cheese one is not Conservative]. Billie 'n me found them to be quite enjoyable! :notworthy:

The recipe recommends the “native” tomato sauce by Delgrosso, which, despite of the potentially funny name, is actually pretty good.

Never had the pizza. I see no reason to give it a try.

Well. . . if you look at the "pizza" from a side view, you'll see that you didn't really need that last part, because... Well. Check out the crust:

Add some ground beef and this was the "pizza" on offer in my elementary school cafeteria in the 70s.
