It kind of makes sense as they are both cut from the same muscles, just one is one end of it and the other is the other end of it. So what's in the middle? A T-boneish porterhouse? A porterhouse with T-bonese characteristics? Pictures are the best of a thing, so you take a picture of the best T-bone and if that is in the fuzzy area of the next cut, that's ok.
This is one I agree with. Our massive chain supermarket has beautiful fruit that tastes like nothing. I get my fruit elsewhere.
I have to say, one of the great things about living where I live is the Farmer's Market that's been going since 1938 (so it's not an overpriced boutique thing) -- peaches are probably good for another week. I mean, it's not going to be as good as a California farmers market since no one grows avocados or citrus fruit around here. But there are plenty of varieties of apples and peaches, and a good load of veggies, most of which are cheaper than the supermarket.
I find that Costco has good produce, you just have to buy a huge amount. I just finished working my way through a box of really good nectarines. Definitely the best avocados around, too.
My grandparents would buy fresh fruit in bulk and then home-can it. Between that and the two gardens they kept up even after they retired from farming, their storm cellar was always well-stocked.
I refuse to buy tomatoes in the store. As they grow here year round I stagger my plantings to limit the time I have to do without. I yank the older plants once they approach 30 ft.
I know you will find it hard to believe this but some so called Farmer's Markets get their produce from the same distributors that the grocery stores do! Caveat Emptor!!!
Yeah. I love nectarines, because I almost could suck the juicy fruit from the pit. Nowadays they sell ones when I bite in them I struggle to get my teeth back out of the fruitflesh. They really ruined my love for them.
When I was back in the Berkshires Ma I went to my favorite Chinese restaurant and got House Egg Foo Yung and Qt of Wonton Soup...$16.50! Out here in the land of plenty same thing [not as good] $38+.
I like it in a stew or something when it’s cooked into mush and just gives a hint of flavor. But raw, naw.
I like it raw with fried chicken and soups with celery are really good. Also they are important in mirepoix.
On a yummier note, the in-laws were visiting for the past week, and on their last night they requested I grill steak and veggies. And every time they make this request I get a little intimidated, because my father-in-law will buy filet mignon, and I really don’t want to ******** up a cut of meat more expensive than I ever buy for myself. But fortunately it came out perfectly. Also grilled zucchini, carrots, and mushrooms (not pictured because I ate them all before I snapped the photo), and my mother-in-law made some excellent twice baked potatoes.
I'm not generally a fan myself, but there's an exception: I will greedily devour it with ranch and wing flats*. I'm at the point where I will not even get wings without extra celery. *I'll eat drumettes, but I prefer flats because they're more tender
A cab from a semi-local winery called Decoy. Also chosen by the father-in-law, I’m not a wine guy but I enjoyed it. Despite the inevitable headache that wine always gives me these days.
Most Decoy is under $20 here. There’s one that’s between $45 and $50. If anyone has ever had it, let me know.
Is it? I’d guess this bottle was on the lower end of their spectrum then, he usually goes around $20/bottle for his purchases outside of special occasions. But back when he was really into wine it was a different story, we stand to inherit a nice collection at some point.
