Next year will be the 50th Anniversary... I hope the club does something tasteful, and not "commercial"...
Seconded. I thought everything that I saw surrounding Bestie's passing was well done. Hopefully something equally as tasteful and appropriate.
It is impossible to imagine English Football without Bobby Charlton. The only similar American comparision is trying to imagine Boxing without Ali. He's been a fantastic Ambassabor for the your club. Imagine being Kenny Dalgish and having been in person for the Ibrox, Heysel, and Hillsborough deaths. Should be too much for one man to bare in a lifetime.
Now take that and imagine that Charlton said Duncan Edwards, made him (Sir Bobby) feel inferior as a footballer. Lets also not forget Tommy Taylor who was only 26 and had 16 England goals to his name in just 19 appearances.
To me, Charlton's story is the saddest part of the whole story. To be completely unscathed while the majority of your team, your friends, are dead is very harsh. The survivor's guilt that he obviously still feels is horrible.
I'm trying to find a video of this but back in 1999 just before the Champions league Final, ITV interviewed Sir Bobby and the look in his eyes were just amazing, you could see the babes written all over him.
It'll be interesting to see how the club does this. Last season, they did alot of stuff with the Babes, I think my OneUnited package came with a pin/badge/etc. This season, we'll have Munich as well as Bobby's night out at Wembley. Hoping that the Citeh fans show a bit of class; I actually think they will, I'm glad it's there rather than Liverpool.
Yea i know ..Pass it along to any United fans you know in the UK or any Expats ..Speard the word ....the more the better ..This Petition should never leave page 1
I signed it, but I have to say, I think it's inevitable that some kind of memorial will be put in place...
I had signed it earlier. I doubt that the petition will carry much clout at Government level, but if it makes the Club aware of what the supporters want then I fully support it. I do believe that somebody at the Club will be made aware of the petition. As to what they are going to come up with, the Club are playing their cards pretty much close to their chest at the moment. I just hope that what they do has no commercial undertones attached to it.
Pffft! Is it sad that I'm that jaded at 35 years old? Ah well, with Sir Bobby and Sir Alex there, hopefully it's, at least, a tasteful tribute.
