http://www.cnn.com/2003/SHOWBIZ/Music/06/03/music.country.reut/index.html Poor Natalie, first she gets fat, then pisses off the President, but now Toby Keith? Who can say anything bad about the guy who sold millions of records on the tragedy of 9/11?
In reading that article, one thought went through my head: Those program directors sure are making a big effort to don the kneepads and kneel down in front of Toby Keith. I mean, Natalie Maines calls out one of today's most sucktacular country artists on national TV, and these schmucks act like she kidnapped the Lindbergh baby. If that isn't "Why Nashville sucks" in a nutshell, I don't know what is. Here's an idea, dopes: How about saving your righteous indignation who has something more to offer than just a big hat and tight jeans.
What on God's green earth could this guy be a doctor of if he's programming country music in Corpus Christi?!!? Frankly, there should be a bigger outcry over the fact that Lambchop didn't win "Entertainer of the Year" over Toby Keith. It's a crime! Murf
But he sings about 9/11 and how we should kick the *************** out of ever other country on the Planet so he must rock right?
I sometimes wonder what white American males have to be angry about. Abolition? Women's voting rights? The inability to pollute and exploit at will? I think I know. White American males are angry because most of us are useless. Toby Keith is the commercial embodiment of that. I've made it clear to my daughter (a big Chicks fan) is that sperm is free and babies are expensive.
Just FWIW, more than half of the program directors quoted in the piece work for radio stations owned by Clear Channel.
Ask and ye shall receive... http://www.lyricsondemand.com/b/benfoldslyrics/rockinthesuburbslyrics.html "Let me tell y'all what it's like Being male, middle-class and white It's a b*tch, if you don't believe Listen up to my new CD I got *************** runnin' throught my brain It's so intense that I can't explain All alone in my white-boy pain Shake your booty while the band complains I'm rockin' the suburbs Just like Michael Jackson did I'm rockin' the suburbs Except that he was talented"
I hope this doesn't devolve into another of those East Coast of the Tennessee River / West Coast of the Tennessee River squabbles which have claimed the lives of so many of our bright young Nashvile artists. 'Cause you can hardly buy a fifth of Jack Daniels or a pouch of Redman in Nasheville without crossing that damm river.
Toby Keith should be a arrested for stealing .38 Special's entire catalog and pretending it's his own. Nat's a cool kitten.
last week, a USA TODAY article about t-shirts celebrities were wearing referred to the FUTK as standing for something like 'friendship-understanding-tolerance-knowledge' - i don't know which is true, but either way i'm with the chicks - i love the girls' music AND their attitude - toby keith on the other hand is just more drivel passed off as music to an unwitting audience that laps up faux patriotism - and as for the natalie/sadaam image at his concerts.... what a freakin' loser!! i'm sure he loves that idea too - seems like another typical soft southern male momma's boy who thinks everything is his because he says so (and before any southern males freak out on me: no i'm not saying that every southern man is like that, but i think we all know the type of hair-trigger tempered, violent, drunken, selfish, lying, misogynistic lout i'm referring to) - if his songs were so damn good, he would pay no mind to the chicks, much less organize and advertise some bullsh** representation of another musician - personally if country music radio ever thought my songs were perfect for their playlist, i'd kill myself - aren't they the dunderheads who completely ignore the jayhawks, son volt and every other great twang rock/heartland music group in existance? (not to mention they continually told the indigo girls to give up because they had no songwriting/singing abilities) - the nashville country music good ol' boys network just needs to take a crap because... well we all should do what we do best
I'm glad you qualified with 'one of'. I'd also like to point out that that Darryl (?) Worley tune makes good ol' Toby look like the lovechild of Fareed Zakaria and Thomas Friedman.
You lefties might not like Toby Keith, but the vast majority of country music fans like him--and he's the only country artist that I'd pay to see. Keep on bitchin' on, you're in the minority
And here is Toby Keith pairing up with Scott Emerick to write and perform a song called "I'll never smoke weed with Willy again".....
Emphasis added. It's no surprise that anyone with such poor taste that they can listen today's overproduced crapola Country-Pop also can't see that Toby Keith is a despicable POS who continues to capitalize on the 9/11 terrorist attacks and passes off jingoism and hate-mongering as patriotism.
Amen. I'd rather have to watch Ishtar, Blues Brothers 2000 and Battlefield Earth for 24 hours straight than one hour of CMT. It should be duly noted by all present that Axis Alex has been passing off jingoism and hate-mongering as patriotism long before 9/11.
I should clarify--I wouldn't pay for one of his albums (or any other artist's for that matter aside from Oasis and U2), but he's the only country artist I'd pay to see in concert. I think this thread should be printed onto parchment and enshrined in the Museum of Elitist Liberal Snobbery.
