Real Salt Lake dismisses head coach Jeff Cassar: https://t.co/ZVloc6svKL pic.twitter.com/x0SubbfBiD— Real Salt Lake (@realsaltlake) March 20, 2017
He got a new contract in the offseason; rumor was he was on a very short leash, and apparently that meant three games: http://www.rsl.com/post/2017/03/20/real-salt-lake-dismisses-head-coach-jeff-cassar
No no no no no! You were supposed to wait until AFTER you lost to the Loons! Can't anybody in the league get this right?
It's a compliment. The Loons are so Mighty that no team dare face them with a mere Cassar at the helm....
I thought the team played well against LA. Well enough to give him a couple more games. I guess RSL wanted to cut the losses soon.
I hope its Petke, the American Miquel Herrera (by which I mean an absolute blast to watch on the sidelines.)
So what's next for @RealSaltLake? Do they knock on Robin Fraser's door? Mike Petke (not likely IMO)? Need manager w/ faith in HGs.— Andrew Wiebe (@andrew_wiebe) March 20, 2017 Thx, Jay!
Given that the team hasn't won a game since last August and they've scored about a half dozen goals since then (over 10+ games), not surprising. Cassar is the definition of mediocre coach, your prototypical U-12 coach that just teaches "boot it up to Hat Trick Rick and let him do all the work" level of tactical acumen. Watching this team devolve from being among the most beautiful teams to watch play in MLS (circa 2010-2013 with Kreis, et al.) to what they are now, a team that just launches long ball after long ball, has been demoralizing at best and absolutely frustrating in reality. You know who I really hate, though? Portland. If Portland had managed to win a single ********ing road game last year then RSL would have missed the playoffs and we would have had a new coach 4 months ago with a whole offseason to implement his philosophy. But no, those bastard hipsters had to completely shit the bed and allow RSL to back into the playoffs.
