Triple header in NWSL on ION. End of first match with KC v. Utah. Next, Denver plays their first match ever against Bay FC. Then, Houston in San Diego Sure is nice to have soccer on "free" tv. MLS should consider it some time. I guess there is supposed to be an MLS match on Fox Sports, but it has been delayed for "World Baseball Classic." For the record, "Italy" (with three players actually born in Italy) are crushing Puerto Rico.
Also if you live away from being able to get ION over the air it's available streaming free via Tubi, Amazon FireTV and Roku (probably more services too).
I call it Comiskey park to piss off the guy who tore down Comisky Park. I'm glad I was able to attend 1 game there before it disappeared. I had a GF in high school whose brother was a big rising pitcher in college until he blew his arm out and became a scout for the Sox in the late 80's/early 90's and I got free tickets when I was visiting Chicago for the first time (in '87ish) in the first row behind home plate. It was TOO close and TOO low (because the field was arched for rain runoff presumably) but really sparsely attended so I had to move back about 10 rows and over up the 3rd base line some to see better because I was actually blocked by the umpire from the first seat looking UP at home plate. Crazy.
Roma/Como. Fifth and sixth in the table, each in 51 points. A battle for a potential Champions League spot.
"New" Comiskey was terrible when it opened. Bland, concrete, blue, too steep, sterile as a shopping mall. When it opened I was in the horticulture trade. I said to my mom the first season, "They should add some plantings past center field to break things up a bit." The renovations they made: making it less steel, green seats, plantings, good food and beer, plenty of restrooms, etc. It became one of my favorite places to see a sporting event. I was at a number of White Sox games at "old" Comiskey, but I don't remember them much, just that it was gritty and always super hot when I was there. I have much clearer memories of Sting matches and AWA/NWA/WCCW Super Clash 1985.
So, we ended up with 24" of snow so far. It is still snowing heavily. Did some shoveling, now watching the second half of Liverpool v. Tottenham in the EPL (which sucks). Question for the philosophers in the audience: What sucks worse: Shoveling 2 feet of snow. Or Watching EPL? At least the snow looks pretty when it is happening. Not so with the EPL (which sucks). However, I am less likely to reinjure my back sitting on the couch.
...and we had 3-4" of additional snow after I posted that. Fortunately, the roof is new, so it better be okay. Worried about the solar panels! We won't be generating electricity for a few days at least.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Bodø/Glimt could not hold their 3-0 advantage in the second leg. Lost 5-3 after extra time and have to head home to Norway. BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!
The estimated £53 million they earned for their participation should help ease their sadness, though.
In Champions League, Chelsea just missed making it to the next round, losing 3-0 at home and 8-2 on aggregate. Sooooo close there, Blues. Manchester City likewise were a hairsbreadth away, losing 2-1 at home and 5-1 on aggregate. Sad that EPL (which sucks) is not dominating. Arsenal are moving, having bested Bayer 2-0 at home and 3-1 on aggregate.
More is stolen by the pen than by the sword. "The CAF Appeal Board decided that in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 (“the Match”), with the result of the Match being recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF)." https://www.cafonline.com/news/caf-appeal-board-media-statement/
I was just reading that. I do not think this is appropriate, as they should have declared the forfeit when the Senegal players walked off of the field and did not return for almost 20 minutes. To do it two months later seems a bit dumb. https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/articles/ce949glzzglo
I don't think Newcastle is going through. They are currently down 7-2 to Barcelona with 10 minutes remaining, 8-3 on aggregate (after tied 1-1 after the first leg).
Good call! In other news Galatasaray's Noa Lang suffered a freakish injury, slicing his thumb on the LED advertising board. If you have been up close to these devices you know it was only a matter of time until something like this happened. https://www.independent.co.uk/sport...aray-liverpool-champions-league-b2941401.html
Another first for the Premier League. 4 - In Chelsea, Manchester City, Newcastle, and Tottenham Hotspur, this is the first time ever that four sides from a single nation have all been eliminated at the same stage of a season in the UEFA Champions League. Yes, and the commentary last week was that Real Madrid would place no higher than 8th in the EPL (which sucks). Only Arsenal won both matches in the Round of 16. Liverpool lost the first leg, but dominated the second. ...the EPL sucks
