2 dumb things with the NWSL game. "Up the Swans" scarf. We don't have promotion/relegation. It makes zero sense. Second dumb thing, broadcast crew saying this is a rivalry. Nope, inaugural game for this franchise. No established rivalry yet
With the crowd in DC last night and Foxboro today I'm incredibly impressed with the support of Women's soccer right now. This is wonderful.
Huge promotion battle for Palermo in Monza today. Good guys down a goal that came against the run of play at the half.
Makes me wish we had competent ownership that didn’t ruin our brand here in Chicago and turn it from one of the coolest names we have locally to the most genericass sounding name in all of sports.
I'm STILL pissed about it. The fans chose the original name and identity. The "Stars" already exist and they play a different sport in a shithole state.
Maybe they meant the "natural rivalry" of Boston and New York, that crosses many sports. Or, just dumb.
Me thinks it's a statement of support. Was a time when "Up the 'RA" was a common chant, and piece of Mens room graffiti, among supporters of an organization that was based in the north of Ireland. Allegedly.
I hate St. Louis with a passion. Do I consider St. Louis City a rival? Nope. Hardly any history in the soccer realm against the Fire. So yeah, just dumb. New England and Columbus are our rivals because we have a history. I'm just rambling now because I was reminded of ownership (Red Stars) shitting on its real fans.
I do not disagree, except that I have no hatred for St. Louis at all. It is a fine dying Midwest city.
I mean we could interpret it as up the standings but it reeks of up the town taken from somewhere else by the marketing department. I'm also trying to make sense of the "Legacy" part of the team name but I'm too lazy to look it up.
I actually love the city itself, have some very close friends there and a lot of great memories. Friends are so great that despite visiting there regularly for the past 18 years I have never tried provel, or Imo’s, not even once (and I’ve tried- just to experience how bad both are). But yeah, no hatred for their little soccer club, maybe once we realign and start playing them more something organic will pop up but for now, with how infrequently we play them (thanks for nothing Garber!) they don’t rate anything more than indifference from me. Same with the Loons, tbh.
Exactly. That was how I read it. Although "swan upping" is a thing in England. It involves capturing and tagging swans in the River Thames to keep track of them and apportion them. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Swan_upping?wprov=sfla1
Every.Word.Of.This. Except I did try Provel on pizza (for the reasons you state) when I was down there for Christmas two years ago. It was gross and "sticky."
It's STILL the Sears Tower! It's STILL Comisky Park! it's STILL the Gulf of Mexico! and...It's STILL the RED Stars. I won't drop it and if we all don't drop it they will eventually have to flip flop. I think the St. Louisians could have an excellent rivalry against the Cahokia Mississippians.
I agree with this message, except about Sox Park. Comisky Park was iconic, and they tore it down. I was, and am still, pissed the louse of an owner tore it down (with us paying for its replacement). I just can't bring myself to call the perfectly serviceable park across the street anything but Sox Park. Oh, and get off my yard!
