  1. Rugby union is OK. I like watching the big boys. Rugby league & sevens just doesn't do it for me.

I played rugby union for a few years until a major ankle & leg injury.

  4. A high school/college friend took up rugby at NIU. He was a 6'1" wide receiver in HS & a rugby union fullback. He made one of the most vicious tackles I ever saw running full speed into a Chicago Lions ball carrier and popped the ball at least 10 feet in the air. Later that game his rugby career ended when he tore up his knee.

Played flanker or eighth man, tackling was my strength. Broke lower leg, left ankle and tore ligaments on a multi-player collision/tackle. Two operations and two years later I was back 90%, but no more rugby for me.

I was in my 20’s. Six months before I got married but I was mobile for it. Played softball, refereed soccer later after recovery.

  10. It stays here! Messi walks competently; Shaqiri does not.

So, Arsenal won the match 2-1.
BUT, Manchester United won the "penalty shootout"!

Here is the end of the match commentary

    End of 90 minutes
    03:06 , Alex Young

So, Arsenal wins this thanks to Martinelli’s late strike.

But let’s have a penalty shootout anyway.

Here is the end of the shootout commentary

    Man Utd win the shootout!
    03:17 , Alex Young

Sancho has the chance... and scores! United may not have won the game, but won the shootout.

    So that’s something.

Not "good," mind you, but also "not bad."

    2-0

    Tiny crowd

  19. Before the Olympics Marta announced she would retire from international soccer after these games. Echoing Zinedine Zidane, she was sent off in first half stoppage time. Unless Brazil somehow makes the semi-final, she has made her 201st and last ever appearance for Brazil scoring 119 goals.

USKNT v. Morocco in Olympic quarterfinals.

Morocco up in the first half.

Note, neither team is wearing yellow...or orange, just to be clear.
