Andrew Hauptman said the Fire are willing to pay the big bucks to sign a DP. Forlan has not been a regular contributor for Inter Milan this year. Since he's willing to step up to the plate and put down some dollars on a star striker like Forlan we should tell Andrew he's a player we want. He's not some washed up player. He's someone that could truly turn the tide on our season and organization. The Fire should make a move to get him. He's the right guy at the right time. Let's have the organization follow through with their promise.
He's under contract, Andy would have to pay a transfer fee which I dought he would do. I think even if he was free that Andy wouldn't sign him, even tho he said he would spend the money for a DP. I won't believe it to someone like Forlan is signed and in town ready to play.
A transfer fee could be an obstacle, but I wholeheartedly believe we the supporters (remember, supporters exists all over the stadium and outside the stadium as well) need to push the team to follow through with their promise. My understanding is that Diego's on the outs at Inter. It might be possible to negotiate safe passage without a massive fee. If it's possible, Andrew needs to do it.
We only sign Uruguayans of Chaves, (other player I forgot his name because we sold him 3 months after signing him), and Puppo quality.
And that'll continue until 1000 people show up to a Q&A with Andrew instead of 100. Why not motivate all of us here first and then get the team on board? Every season ticket holder reading this should advocate for a move like this at every home game until it happens.
I haven't really seen him since the WC 2010. He was certainly awesome then. I gotta believe he would have something left in the tank. I'd be up for it.
32, tore an Achilles in October that kept him out 3 months, then hurt his thigh right after that kept him out some more. I'd be ok risking some money on an older player. I'd be ok risking some money on a just got back from serious injury player. No thank you for somebody who is both. At 32, he is already over the hill in soccer terms, and clearly has not adapted well to the Italian game (2 goals in 22 games). This tells me he may not suit the physicality of the MLS well either, and a player like that will cost money. Despite my opinions, I am sure there are a dozen clubs out there who would love to sign him, and my guess is if an offer comes from Italy or England (or even France or Germany), he doesn't cross the pond. Besides, just 2 weeks ago his agent said he plans on seeing his contract out (through 2013).
Didn't know about the torn achilles. Like an ACL, that is an injury that takes a lot of time, even after the player can play again. I would need to know more.
I don't think it was a torn achilles, just injured. I don't remember reports that it was ruptured like David Beckham's, although he's returned amazingly well from that. I think Forlan's got the skill to push us to the next level.
The Fire should sign Wayne Rooney. And Xabi Alonso. And Wesley Sneijder. And David Villa. And Diego Lugano. Hey, I hear that Maarten Stekelenburg kid ain't half bad - let's sign him too. I bet these signings would boost attendance . Come on, Andrew, what are you waiting for?
As this is my favorite player just giving you a heads up...looks like he is trying to split Inter and is looking at Miniero in Brazil.... I wish he would come to MLS but we may need to wait a bit (he previously mentioned Seattle as a final destination in interviews)
Forlan would be an awesome addition and if he's thinking of leaving Inter, the Fire shouldn't waste a second getting in touch with him.
I would pay to see Forlan play against my Red Bulls in a second... Transfer fee would have to be over 10 million easy right now though as he is mid-contract.
and we're going to get Drogba to solve the scoring issues. I'd love to see it, but won't believe it until the press conference.
Are you kidding me? I would personally pay Drogba 250 Euros a week to play for the Fire. Seriously, we have heard this stuff before. UAE has been in the market as long as MLS has existed. There are simply advantages for these guys to play in the US that go beyond money. Some will go for the money. But there is always a market to play here for many.
I could have sworn I heard someone post that the Fire did extend an offer to Suarez a year or two ago and he turned it down.
