The media that covers this team, both corporate and independent, cares more about its access and its relationships with the club brass than it does with accountability. This has always been the case.
Isn't that the case with most media in this country though? (sports, politics, business, crime, etc..)
Criticize the media, sure, but plenty of people have been making excuses for Curtin for years in this thread.
Articles and negative media coverage help mobilize the fan base... it's that simple... puff pieces and ignoring the issues creates an environment of ignorance. (See: Reddit)
Something has to change, we're not getting better players but even if we could Curtin isn't good enough.
"The media that covers this team, both corporate and independent, cares more about its access and its relationships with the club brass than it does with accountability. This has always been the case." AMEN
How do we expect the forwards to see more service if the manager continues to role out two-defensive mids in front of a back four and a number 10 who is not naturally gifted for that position? The midfield is often too stretched and empty, and no one is really there in the middle to occupy space and draw out defenders centrally. As a consequence, not only do we see a lack of attacking mids linking up with whoever is the forward at the time, but the wingers who try to whip in crosses have to forces balls into a mix where the Union is consistently outnumbered in the area.
A certain GM has mostly ignored the 10 position. Our only real options there are an out of position player, a lazy midfielder who has never shown an ability to bring his teammates into the game, or a kid out of college. At this point, I want to see the latter (not that Jimbo would actually have the backbone to take a risk and roll the dice).
Do you want him to do something crazy and play Ale in the back and bring that $400K bench warmer Alberg off the bench?
The important thing is we're all there now. We all did crazy stuff when we were younger, drank, unprotected sex, wanted to give Curtin time to bring his guys in, calling people out for mistakes in their youth won't help.
Clearly the soccer media is an extension of the teams PR dept. On the KK and DZ podcast, they mentioned Ilsinho practicing with the starters then immediately realized they gave out to much info and in fact mentioning that they shouldn't have said that.. I ask, what are they there for if not to report what they see ? It seems to me that Haris would be way better at the 10. He's crafty as hell on the ball but doesn't offer much defensively. Conversely, Bedoya's skill set is gritty defensive work and smart passes to maintain possession. Ale just isn't the playmaker they want him to be. This seems like the obvious move right ?
Jim Curtin had the 2015 pre season, 2016 pre season, and now 2017 pre season as well as summer transfer windows to build his squad. How long does it take? He's been given way too much time and during that period we've stayed in the same mediocre place. I guess in the MLS there is no relegation, so since the fans expect mediocrity what pressure is there? Clearly they're content with subpar attendance.
There's such a simple solution to where they are right now. Either play Bedoya for Jones with Alberg at 10 or Bedoya for Ilson Jr with Alberg at 10. Its still a flawed lineup, but it does play to strengths... Hell, flip Bedoya and Ilsinho for all I care. Why stick with something that so obviously will not work.
