In terms of his record, he'd be the worst coach we'd ever had if it wasn't for the expansion year. I just don't see a way forward for him to evolve as a coach. He's shown zero growth; he just rinses and repeats the same old tactics over and over again.
Watching Atlanta for the first time tonight makes me sad. Yes they have stars, but they also have rookies and MLS old-timers. And they are playing better soccer than the Union ever has.
Amazing what having a real coach and an owner that is willing to spend more than the bare minimum will do for a club.
JT took a decidedly odd stance last night that 1) Jim was a good coach cause he played Jones as a HG 2) and better than Sigi cause Sigi once lost a bunch of games in 2006 with CMB (before winning a Cup with them) and then, as JT can, reverse logic'd 3)CJ with I don't believe in him because he fades. It's almost like he doesn't follow the U at all since Sak took his lunch money, but kept all the bitterness.
For comparison's sake: Jeff Cassar (RSL) was let go after the first 3 games this season (0-0 vs TFC, 2-0 loss to CHI, 2-1 loss to LAG. Union's first 3 games of the season - 0-0 vs VAN, 2-2 vs TFC, 2-1 loss to ORL. Since late August of 2016, and forgetting how we tore apart the Tampa Bay Rowdies in preseason, the Union have only managed 4 points (MTL on Sept 10, TFP on Sept 24, and the 2 games listed above). Late August of last season was the last time RSL won a game. And, since that date, they too have managed to secure 4 points (including their 1 from 2017). It's uncanny. But, moral of the story is, we need to play Canadian teams all the time.
He's been blindly defending Curtin ever since Jimmy came out on top of the world wide coaching search.... I don't get it.
Granted, I went to Temple and not Penn, but I struggle to understand some of his more esoteric tweets.
What's to get upset about when the team you play for's just a thinly veiled excuse to get the gang back together? Additionally, this thread: It's not about the media, its about the fans. If you dont like it, dont show up. Media pressure, again, is a myth— Kevin Kinkead (@Kevin_Kinkead) April 2, 2017 KK's got a lil' self-righteous streak in him sometimes, but on this one I think it's more he's missed the point entirely. The thread was someone responding to his assertion that media pressure is a myth by pointing out examples in which the media should have, or could have, taken Curtin/the team to task. His response is that we should take the lead by not showing up...which is either intellectually dishonest, or else very poor logic. Fans aren't in a position to directly pose critical questions on a regular basis. The oft-touted Sak-coffin thing is the exception, not the rule. Of course fans showing up, or not, is part of the equation, and from a business sense yes does put on more pressure--but it's . But articulation of concerns, frustrations, and valid criticism by an engaged media is part of the equation as well. They (should) work in tandem to create accountability. Otherwise, from inside the POV of the mothership, it just looks like you need more Star Wars Dollar Dog Nights to drum up attendance rather than an entire rethink of your ownership/coaching staff/etc.
