Well Chicago has traded Nowak to NE for peanuts... http://soccernet.espn.go.com/headlinenews?id=252741&cc=5901 Sounds like the Fire are going to be very unpredictable this year. I'm not sure what to expect out of this years season with all of the recent movements, or at least with regards to the East. Chicago dumps Nowak & Kovalenko DC & NY mega-trade What's next?
It's going to be VERY hard to picture that Polish playmaking bastard in anything OTHER than Fire colors.
MLSnet.com hints that the Fire are not yet off the trade blocks... apparently one more trade is to be announced soon. Speculation folks? I'm assuming that it'll be something involving Hristo Stoitchkov, but man I would just cream myself if it involved us and Bocanegra.
Man does 3stripes computer suck, I can't log her out...oh well this trade upsets me a bit. I've been thinking the whole offseason that the Revs were the team to beat, along with that I thought we didn't have much to fear from the Fire. Well the Revs just got better in this trade.
Interesting thought, Hang. Nowak Probably has some good plays left, but a high priced 38yr old midfielder doesn't sound like a great acquisition to me. How do the Revs make the cap with his salary and still improve their offense?
Planetfootball says to make room for Nowak, they're expected to drop Chacon. http://www.planetfootball.com/article.asp?id=126284&cpid=218&title=Chicago+send+Nowak+to+New+England"/>
If NE needed extra salary last year how did they sign a max salary player? Why is the info on the second Fire trade a secret? NE has Chacon, Serna, Nowak, Griffiths, and Kante but how many have green cards? Something smells MLSey around here.
The second trade isn't secret, they probably need to contact the players, the agents and the like. I suspect Wolff to KC as many have mentioned, but time will tell. Time will also tell on the dropping of APC, as rumor has it he has a clause that prevents being dropped for another player. All the same I also smell something MLSey. Bocanegra has never been on the block, so no need to do any creaming Kaiser... Oh, and to answer that other question, Nowak and Griffiths have green cards, Chacon and Serna were SI's last year and Kante was a TI.
I wasn't saying that I thought he would really be on the block, I was just saying how awesome that would be. Let a Kaiser have his dreams! Now here's something to cream about: if we got both Boca and Frankie on our team... damn, would that be cool. Quick! Somebody throw some ice water on me!
from my understanding of the salary cap... that's not possible the time to waive chacon has passed (there is another time to do this, but not until after the teams have gotten through this cap "adjustment") this is why the fire have to eat hristo and marsch's salaries right now... they don't have contracts for the upcoming year, but the fire still have to fit them in with the rest of the team towards their cap
I strongly dislike Chicago. I strongly dislike Nowak - probably because he played for Chicago. I understand that sports is a business as well as entertainment. Having said that, I almost feel for Chicago fans as they lose a player so closely identified with their team. Nowak and Chicago seemed to go hand-in-hand. It's always disappointing to see a player so associated with a team leave, at least to me. Man, that national title this morning is making me mushy or something.
i agree...although i've converted from my Fire days, I'm still disappointed he's leaving Chicago. Flyer - were you as happy about the fiesta bowl as you were about the Flyers beating Marquette today?
I posted this elsewhere, but I had a pretty good sports fan week. Last Sunday Dayton lost at Duke by eleven on national TV, but we had the lead down to six points, with the ball, with 3:08 remaining. Then, of course, OSU brings home the title in OT. Yesterday the mighty Flyers - striking back at the Jesuits - knock off Marquette in OT on national TV (causing me to swear off sports for a while!). And the Blue Jackets took five of six points this week. A good sports fan week...
I was at the UD v Marquette game. Anyway, what are all the Polish guys going to now that the eastern block players have been tossed.
im sure they'll keep getting drunk at games and fvcking with people... all good for the suburb of naperville.
I just look at it this way. Daniel Hernandez was the Revs creative midfielder in the center of the park last year. Now Nowak can take that role and Hernadez can be his annoying as hell hack d-mid self. When I think of it like that I think the Revs just got better.
You gotta be kidding me.... I hope everyone here has time today just to take a quick read through the Fire boards. It is a good laugh. Few times have I seen such mellodramatic and irrational ramblings in my life. You would think that their team was dissolved in the same way the Fusion and Mutiny were if you didn't know the news. The best part about it is those over their who still at this point refuse to acknowledge that this was a Peter Wilt decision. That they coulda made some trades last year or during the season so they wouldn't be in this mess. And that they could have even traded smeone besides Nowak but Wilt chose Nowak. Oh wait, I mean AEG and MLS forced them to trade Nowak. Please. It's pathetic.
I honestly think it sucks they're losing Nowak, but you're right about their posts, hang. Heck, you'd think either Chicago was contracted or Nowak died by reading those posts.
OK, the national championship was a few days ago, so I'm getting back to normal. After reading through more posts today, I don't think I feel for Chicago fans anymore. In fact, I'm pleased that Nowak's trading has inspired so much comedy...unintentional comedy, but comedy nonetheless. The reasonable replies get lost in the sea of tears. It brings a smile to my face...but I'm pretty much a dick anyway.
Since this is the first time I've seen it mentioned, what a game. Our fans kicked their fans ass, our band kicked their bands' ass - even the cheerleaders. Did you notice that stupid "Cheerleaders kick fieldgoals" thing at the half? First up is some blond, just-fell-out-of-the-convertible cutie who, we were advised, was from "Ft Lauderdale Florida" She shanks it. So then OSU sends up a girl. The screen identifies her home town as "Canton, Ohio". I said "It's in the freakin bag, pal" I mean, I'm sure the Miami chick can give a two-finger BJ with the best of them. but Ohio girls know football. Right down the middle. My favorite was the lick Wilhelm laid on Dorsey; straight up the gut and BANG his ass hits the ground. He tries to get up and falls again like a bag of rocks. Go Bucks.
APC will likely be waived, taking care of a big chunk of salary cap. As for improving the offense: the Revs led the league in goals last season with essentially the same cast, and now have a healthy, motivated Serna (if you believe the rumors) and Nowak to boot. Better? Certainly not worse.
Bill, our team beat their team. Our band beat their band. Our cheerleaders kicked their cheerleaders butts. And, our fans beat their, oops, does Miami have fans? Impressive when we can do the O-H-I-O loud and clear outside of the 'Shoe. And the male cheerleader that kicked for the Buckeyes was from 'ol Dublin. Funny to see the press so engrained into the "Miami will win" mentality that they even got the winners of the cheerleader competition wrong.
