Mendy shouldn’t be on the squad.

Give me a break man. This is some super entitlement crap where i either think you forgot, or simply weren't here for the reality of how badly the team was stacked in that position for so long.

People are watching world level international players every week and say "this guy is garbage", like, have you SEEN what actually terrible fullback play looks like?

I think there are more people here that agree with me than you on this one.

We've had geriatric Gabi Heinze starting games for us. You're simply new to this. Mendy ranks amongst the better fullbacks we've signed in recent times. Cicinho couldn't defend if you'd arm him with a pistol.

That was nearly 20 years ago my man. You can also go back say the same thing about Baptista, Samuel, Gago regarding our DM and saying Tchoumeni deserves to be on the squad.

Mendy has been in Madrid for 5 years. As basic as his game is, you'll never go into a game knowing he'll get crushed the way it often was the case with Marcelo, who was brilliant in his own way but still incredibly flawed.

If you dip in before Marcelo, there's a horror show of defenders wearing this shirt.

People saying Mendy should not be on the squad or should not be playing at all are moving mad.

Mendy is a very good defensive left back and is a power house, I remember watching La liga players speaking about the best defenders they face in la liga and Ferland is always mentioned.

Yall need to relax with them horrible takes.

Disagree, Mendy was really good just last year. Was a mainstay for us, earnt himself a renewal and a recall to the French NT. Not bad for a terrible player.

Agreed, he’s been below par, and I mentioned sometime ago I suspect his weaknesses, I.e. ball progression, were masked by having Kroos stationed next to him always offering an easy pass option. Fran is at the moment both a better tactical fit and in better form IMO.

He had a good half season last year but definitely didn't "earn" a long-term renewal imo, our coaching staff is just too lazy to invest time and effort on Fran so they go with their 'true and trusted'. Mendy is going to be a burden on the squad for a couple of years.

We have such low standards for our fullbacks. Bigger picture: he's always been injury prone and a time bomb at the back. We all know he'd rather contract a severe skin disease than cross the damn ball or move it forward but now he can't even defend.

Shambolic form this season. After the Clasico and Anfield, he should be a mainstay..on the bench

Also Deschamps' choices are no benchmark.

Rewatch El Clasico, and the games vs Milan and Liverpool.

Agreed. He really struggles now that Kroos isn't there to drop deep and offer him that option.
I see people in here complaining that "X or Y is a system player therefore not good enough for us" even though someone like Mendy is a prime example of a system player.

Salah has smoked almost everybody he played against this season. If the only guy good enough is somebody that stops him, we'll need to hire a security guard with a legal rifle.

Tchouameni back in training. I imagine he is going to bench Ceballos when he's ready to start. It will be interesting to see what happens when Camavinga returns. Do we bench Asencio and send Tchouameni to the back line?

He's certainly going to have to earn his minutes again, wherever position that may be at.

Tchoumeni will be put back into the 11 regardless if he earns his minutes. Carlo views him as a starter no matter what.

I’m guessing it will be either Diaz or Ceballos who sits for him and Modric this Wednesday.
