I'd be gladly surprised with any major titles this season.

This was a very close game before Rayo's red cards as i remember.

The Schalke match in 2013-14 UCL is a better example

I prefer tight wins vs big opponents. The numbers are for the history books, the memorable games is what matters.

I'm too sad that that Kyilan didn't go to play with France in the international break and he rested instead to think about Dani injury.

You're trying to be funny, but a lack of attitude and effort isn't something you want to see associated with our players.

Numerous reports saying Alaba can’t train anymore without pain and close to calling retirement ?? That bad?

Alaba is done. Dani was also quite injury prone and I think he'll have an extremely difficult time trying to return to form in one year.

Bummer for their career to end that way. Thankful we got Alaba at least for that 21/22 season. He did better than expected. Dani is a club legend.

Seems like the defense will be the main focus next window. Well…one would assume and hope it is at least.

Alaba was already done before the injury, and now 2nd place in regards to transfer busts in the recent years.

Dani is a fighter, through and through but I’m in agreement that he will not be the same level if/when he returns. It’s a shame but we need to be pragmatic and look for multiple reinforcements in the back line over the next two markets.

Hazard and Jovic in a different tier. Alaba is only a bust if criteria is of extremely high standards. Starter in a team that won CL, La Liga CDR in first two seasons and played half way through last season as well.

Alaba was a successful signing. He's just too injury prone.

Carva was earning this low? Modric cut 50% salary last summer.

Dani's salary reminds me of Marcelo's low salary.

Id put Alaba slightly ahead of Jovic, simply due to the costs of his wages related to the output and expectations.

His first season he was here, he was great. Second season he was unreliable and inconsistent and last season he was pretty poor before the injury.

It's your confirmation bias. Jovic cost 60 ME in transfer fee, 6 ME nett wages per year over 6 year contract and didn't even help us win a single game. Alaba could earn 24 ME nett instead of 12 ME he earns now and Jovic would still be next level flop in terms of cost vs performance in return.

But Marcelo jumped to 8 ME nett with 2017 renewal and had only one good season since. Cashed in next 4 years without doing much . Dani still seems to be in 5 ME nett while he has been the RB of his generation and never compromised on effort.

Given Dani's injury record I would hazard a guess that it plays a part in his low salary. Same goes for Mendy.

Alaba will have cost us around 120m over the 5 seasons.

Jovic was 60m transfer and I don’t think we had to pay all of his wages since we got him loaned out for a few of those seasons.

I think from an expectations POV, Alaba came in much higher than Jovic as he was supposed to anchor our back line (Militao was still unproven) while Jovic was a back up for Benzema.

Anyway, we’re splitting hairs here. Let’s call them both 2a and 2b?

For me, Alaba's career at RM is more similar to that of Cannvaro. Club probably expected Alaba to be a starter for 4 years as we signed him at 29. But ACL cut it short to 2.5 years.

Alaba did the job coming in the summer Ramos and Varane were gone. Won the double in first season. Canna didn't live up to his reputation either and age was a factor as he was 33 or sth. Cost decent transfer fee and high wages those days.

Most importantly, Canna helped us win two league titles in 3 years as a starter as opposed to Walter Samuel and glassman Woodgate era where we had no defense. Alaba meanwhile won every major title as a starter at RM.
