Well you know, to tell you the thruth Ive never dated one. I wasnt raised in the Portuguese community and I didnt go to school with anyone who was Portuguese but I would never rule it out ! We have some hotties and do some good representing on both sides of the gender issue. I found out this past week-end that this british actress's mother is Portuguese Indian ( Im assuming Goan ) and her father is Moroccan. http://www.indian-magic.com/cgi-bin/image.cgi?laila.54 Shes on the Brit series, 'Footballer's wives' so its rather appropriate. My eyes are like hers but alas, I dont have photoshop for the rest
To add to the above, a thread from the Goan voice in Britain. http://www.goanvoice.org.uk/supplement/LailaRouass.htm (and no, I dont actually do much work while Im at work )
we had a thread about Goa, but for some reason was close about this time last year, they want their independence just like East Timor
...They should get their independance. Where I work weekend mornings, I noticed that one of the new residents had a Portuguese last name 'Conçeisao' but she didnt look Portuguese ( she looked Asian with darker skin) so I assumed she married someone who was. I got to chatting with her and asked her about the origins of her name and she proudly told me she was Portuguese. She was from Goa, but part of her familly were originally from Macau. We had a lovelly chat and she was very proud of her Portuguese roots.
correct, I also know at least two couple from Goa and they proud to be part portuguese, they don't want anything to do with India, in Goa they are able to see the portuguese international games, via rtp international
In Lisbon, Portugal a lot of Goa, India restaurants http://pesquisa.sapo.pt/search/HP?enc=utf-8&barra=resumo&t=0&q=Goa&s=Pesquisar
Let's not forget Goa, they keep our tradition by still speaking our language just like East Timor did for years here is a page in english, portuguese and Goa http://welcome.to/vivagoa
...so this Saturday when we will be celebrating our beloved country, we should also raise a glass to all our 'cousins' around the world . Thanks Frank. Now youve made me hungry! I wonder if we have any Goan restaurants here? Must be yummmy...
they could had their independence just like S. Tome e Principe, Cape Verde, Guine Bissau, Mozambique, Angola did after the overthrow of Salazar http://welcome.to/vivagoa
Hey people. Brasil-Argentina is TONIGHT. I'm heading to the Brazil board to torcer for the Brasilians. Anyone else is welcome to go with me.
two portuguese girls are vying for a spot at the auditions for canadian idol. both of them have beautiful voices and i hope they go far. ill be watching it will be interesting to see how far they go.
so salazar was your guy's palpatine? interesting... but, me being the centrist i am, did you have to give independence to your colonies? they would have made great vacation spots and made you guys look cool, b/c technically you were the last empire in Europe. technically colonial power, besides france which has french guiana. but still...it woulda been cool. also, did portugal have a colony in china? something with an "M" in it, it was a port, on the southern rim of china, the rounded bottom part. also, what did you guys trade from your colonies? and when was slavery abolished by portugal? did you guys pull a spain and listen to when the pope said "thats bad?"
depends on who you ask ive meet plenty ofpro salazaar people, even seen lines run down the middle of famlies, another thing is, when the revolution happened he had allread been dead for some years, 1967 maybe ? Frank ? any idea when? the best is ive heard ten dif stories on how he died ranging from the official (stroke, or brain embolism i forget) to the whacky , my grandfather says someone offed him with a champaign bottle. ahah no one knows but salazaar The pro people usualy say he built schools, bridges made soccer teams, was pro catholic, the others say if you even smelledlike a communist pff off you went somewhere. I cant judge though as I wasnt there to deal with any of this my family came here in the late 60's wasnt even born yet.
1. I think it all started with angola and goa, the war in angola started when they put some portuguese people through a saw mill. very interesting war if your into military history, lots of dif factions were fighting in there, from help from cubans russians american cia to south african merceneries. My uncle undid booby traps there and hes still not all there in the head. and from pictures of angola I wouldnt want to vacation there. 2. yes we had macao for a number of years and just gave it back recently. from what I hear lots of casinos. 3. as for slavery I dunno for sure when we stoped? nor do I know if we ourselves were big on slavery for our own country, THe Portuguese and the DUtch were the first to start the market on it, but as far as people in portugal owning slaves ala the american south I dont know for sure. 4. as for trade we had all sorts of things, from rubber from indonesia to coffee and most importantly Spices from idian and the far east gata have your spices. If youwant to read a awseome and i mean awseome story of adventure and tales of being the first white people in places like mecca and such look up Pêro da Covilhã a true story and a adventure it was http://www.vidaslusofonas.pt/pero_da_covilha_2.htm and dont forget to get The Lusiades by who else, ME! Luis Camoes , one of portugals most famous writers, and a book revered by scholars around the world, You can get it in english of course , I got mine from amazon. He was a adventurer to , losing a eye to the moors, exploring africa, geting exiled for getin the hots for some chick, good stuff , all of it
pro-catholic but anti-socialist, its tough to support a guy like that. he seems like a rightist loon. anyway, thanks for the lessons. i'm a history psycho, especially involving catholic european nations like spain, italy, poland, portugal, ireland (not much there), and everyone's favorite Malta! those moors, shame.
Ireland, not much there? Read this book, The Secret History of the IRA http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/t...002-0500631-8221632?v=glance&s=books&n=507846 Its a good thing Ireland doesnt have oil $ ..... cause if they did, England may have been taken off the map.
