Laporta has done a very good job of advocating the case for ESL since coming on board. This will happen; matter of time.
This is gonna be hilarious is the courts hold up this decision when it gets made. The basis of that "promise agreement" and penalty they signed up for are dubious and the courts have already 'de-fanged' UEFA with with last ruling impeding them from punishing clubs for playing other tournaments. The next move will be to go after the English FAs bullshit version and sit back and watch those Englisg clubs grow a magical backbone.

We are working for solutions.”— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) June 20, 2021 🎙| Joan Laporta [Barcelona President]: “It is expected to the state club refusing the Super League because it is a competition that would allow “normal clubs” to be economically healthy.”— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) June 20, 2021 🎙| Joan Laporta [Barcelona president]: “Manchester United and Liverpool were the real founders of the Super League. The championship still exists because the clubs have not yet paid their withdrawal compensation.”— Madrid Xtra (@MadridXtra) June 20, 2021
The ESL war is only just beginning. I believe given the rulings the EU clubs might be willing to join back in. If we have a league with the Italians, Germans and Spanish I can see that as a true competitor to the EPL from a marketing perspective. My understanding is England is banking on their Brexit legal independence to not have to comply to the Madrid court rulings (even suggesting they may withhold work permits for players who play in the ESL basically banning them from playing a game in England). This will be the stage where FIFA will be forced to openly back the ESL as the English FA would be open to a FIFA ban since FA's are supposed to be independent from any political intervention. Early days and lots of fireworks yet to come.
So the rumours from last summer were true, Liverpool will pay to take Mbappe out of Paris, but just not to actually play in Liverpool
🚨🚨🌕| Official Super League sources have told @voz_populi that they expect the European Court of Justice to rule in their favour in the next 8-10 months, and that the competition will begin in 2022. #rmalive— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) June 22, 2021 UEFA should be scared
New CL reforms suck. More boring games in group stages while they want one off semi final. Hope that gets changed somehow.
ESL without the EPL teams would make both competitions terribly unattractive. Not to mention German teams aren't joining.
🚨🌕| All 12 Super League clubs are STILL in the project. @voz_populi #rmalive— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) June 22, 2021 All it takes is a marketing or brand change with a more palatable format. I don't believe they have completely abandoned the project.
They can't unless they pay the penalty. All that talk is meaningless. Put your money where your mouth is...
Meanwhile the MLS is creating a third tier to its system and giving developing players another layer of protection before jumping to the first team. https://www.sounderatheart.com/2021/6/21/22544116/mls-launch-new-professional-league If this super league were to go through it seems like it will be to the benefit of MLS which will be able to absolutely gut European mid table clubs who are no longer receiving a cut of the uefa trickle down revenue streams. If Flo doesn't think the club can compete with oil money clubs without a super league, then he's going to be in for a shock going head to head with North American major leagues and trying to lure talent away from Las Vegas, New York and Miami.
🚨🚨🌕| Madrid's 17th Commerical Court has now filed a new order, and told UEFA to cancel ANY fines and sanctions against ALL 12 Super League clubs, the 9 that decided to leave, and the 3 that decided to remain. @AranchaMOBILE #rmalive— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) July 1, 2021 Trust Florentino
🚨🚨🌕| Madrid's 17th Commercial Court has also told UEFA that if they reject the order, there will be CRIMINAL charges against UEFA, and high-ranking UEFA officials, including UEFA president Ceferin. @Confilegal #rmalive— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) July 1, 2021 🚨🌕| The European Court of Justice will give a final ruling over the Super League vs UEFA case between October and December 2021. @Confilegal #rmalive— Madrid Zone (@theMadridZone) July 1, 2021
UEFA Women announced their new CL Format for the 21/22. Someone should tell them the moment qualification paths sound like algebra problems you're over complicating it.
Football is, quite simply, on a different scale of mass popularity than any other event or programme. Makes a mockery of Florentino Perez's claims about a decline in football interest and highlights the crying shame of a lack of free-to-air football during the club season. https://t.co/kj3ek0xvz4— Colin Millar (@Millar_Colin) July 8, 2021 Last night's #ENG v #DEN match of 27.6m viewers peak would make it the 4th most watched sporting event in the UK of all time. 3) Muhammed Ali vs Joe Frazier - 27.5m viewers 2) 1970 FA Cup Final Replay: Chelsea v Leeds - 28.49m viewers 1) 1966 World Cup final - 32.3m viewers
Imagine how stupid someone has to be to say England playing at home in a Euro final getting high ratings makes a mockery of Florentino's feeling a European Super League will save football and increase viewership. Seriously, people are ridiculously stupid. That is one of the most moronic takes I have seen this year. If anything that reinforces the idea that people tune into big teams and big matches, not the smaller ones.
