There’s obviously a fair few that see it like us as a joke however would say the vast majority get really into it, especially most families ( with dads getting drunk to get through the night ). The media really stoke it up as well. I mean after the Swedish sang their song last night, the main headline on one of the major newspapers online was about Ed Sheeran liking their song.
Somewhat interestingly the last three Euro winners who were not Spain either won Eurovision a few weeks before (Italy in 2021) or the year after (Greece and Portugal). Also for something that started in the same year only Italy in 1964 and 1990 and the UK in 1967 and 1981 have won Eurovision and had a team have win the European Cup/CL in the same year. St Jakob-Park in Basel was used as the overflow venue last night and is also where the Women’s Euro final will be as well as the QF England will be if we win our group. The biggest ever Eurovision in terms of audience size was held at the Parken stadium in Copenhagen 2001 (And is why it still has a retractable roof now).
https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2...005-ashes-marked-end-of-cricket-as-we-knew-it Hike the miney ahs helped it was a massive blow to its wider visibility. It is true that even the biggest names post 2005 are not particularly well known except for maybe Ben Stokes.
We are good but Zimbabwe are awful. Very quick century for Duckett. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/cricket/articles/czx00x0x57ko Good result for the women yesterday.
Zimbabwe are a bowler down as well due to injury. With that, it's turning into little more than an extended net.
India squad announced, with Shubman Gill captaining. Arshdeep Singh is the interesting one. An excellent white ball bowler with a limited and pretty average 1st class record. If he can transition half as well as Bumrah then I thknk they'll be happy. https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/...n-india-s-test-squad-for-england-tour-1487263
Stokes looking pretty good with the ball for someone who hasn't bowled in a while. Not so sure about the mullet though. He's only a moustache away from joining the NRL.
Didn't get to see much of the bowling yesterday, but seeing Sam Cook steaming in at 76mph doesn't fill me with confidence.
Yeah have it on now, he’s just a medium pace, he’s not going to cut it playing down under that’s for sure.
I think he'll struggle on a hot July day in England. It's little more than part time bowling speed, so unless you've got swing or seam mastered, it's easy picking for a quality test bat. His county record is outstanding, but that's bowling mainly in April, May and September on green tops with overcast conditions.
Yes, but they weren't facing many international quality batters. There's only really Peter Handscomb and Josh Phillipe from the Aussie teams they faced that come close to that, and Phillipe hit a century. He'll perform well up to a level, but I don't see test batters who average 45+ having many problems with him on a good pitch.
The Australian pitches and ball have been much more seam friendly in recent years. None of our other bowlers (other than Wood) have any history of bowling in Australia unfortunately, I wouldn’t be particularly confident in any of them doing better than Cook.
Quite possibly. Brook, Root, Duckett and Stokes aren't going anywhere, and it's going to be difficult to drop Crawley or Pope after centuries, regardless of the opposition quality. His only realistic routes back in other than injuries are if they drop Smith and have Pope keep (which is highly unlikely) or Stokes is the fourth bowler (even more unlikely).
But yet again Crawley gets a pass. They were openly laughing about England persisting with him before the match on Sky.
Not sure what it is with Durham and pace bowling, but they might have found another one. Mitch Killeen, son of England coach Neil, has taken a 5 for on his county debut.
I know it’s on at the same time as the playoff final but for anyone that might have forgotten, it’s the Champions Cup final starting in 20 mins between Northampton and Bordeaux Beagles.
Cracking first half in the rugby. Bordeaux's backs seem to have that little bit more to them, especially Jalibert. They're so smooth and gain ground really easily. Northampton doing well to get back level, especially with the injuries they've had.
Yeah losing Rahm and Furbank in the first 5 mins or so was a big blow but they are fightings and just dig deep. Doesn’t help with some dubious ref calls also. How the Bordeaux player didn’t get a yellow for the deliberate knock on, god knows!
