Dutch draw in Norway 1-1 on a 80th minute goal from Miedama, who put away a wonderful cross from Grant. Norway goal came midway in the 2nd half off a corner that Casperij totally botched the clearance delivering the ball straight to the Norway striker who put it away. Dutch looked quite poor on the night, lots of possession but hardly any chances on goal. Several players are no longer good enough to be starters for the team and they really should follow Martens into retirement.

U-19 defeated France 2-0 and have a rematch with Spain in the finals. The last time they defeated Spain in the finals, Lieke Martens was in the team!!

Alas, the Dutch lose to a very mediocre Spanish team 2-1 in extra time with the match winner coming off a poor clearance in the 118th minute. Dutch had several chances to win it in the 2nd half but could not put the ball in on what was an almost empty goal mouth. Spain showed no creativity preferring to play a highly defensive 5-4-1 after they scored the early opener.

I'm getting tired of all these losses in semi and final matches of tournaments.

KNVB chooses assistant to Wiegman as Jonker's successor
The KNVB presented the new coach of the Dutch women's national team on Tuesday.
Arjan Veurink (38) will be the successor of Andries Jonker after the European Championship next summer.
He signs a contract for four years.
    upload_2025-4-15_21-52-12.png
The football association has chosen to work with Veurink. The former head coach of FC Twente's women's team previously worked at the Orange Lionesses as an assistant to Sarina Wiegman and has also played that role with the English women's team since 2021. As an assistant national coach, Veurink was involved in the European Championship win of the Orange in 2017 and that of England in 2022.
Now he has to lead the national women's team to new successes himself. It feels like a logical next step in his career for him.
'I have never made a secret of the fact that I at a given time wanted to be responsible for the Dutch national team,' says Veurink on the website of the KNVB. 'With more than eight years of experience at the highest level as Sarina Wiegman's right-hand man, first with the Netherlands and now in England, I am ready to stand on my own two feet. The fact that this opportunity is now occurring in the Netherlands makes it extra special.'
'Arjan has a rich history in women's football and has experienced the developments that international women's football has undergone up close and personal in the past fifteen years. He knows what is required at the absolute top, but also knows how important it is to keep the connection with the base', says director of top football Nigel de Jong. 'We are therefore happy that he wants to take on the challenge. I look forward to working together and to continue building on the success of the Orange Lionesses together.'

  7. Daphne van Domselaar should be able to make it to coming summer's European Championships. The goalkeeper of the Orange Lionesses suffered an ankle injury in the last international period. What the damage is exactly is unclear, but according to Arsenal coach Renée Slegers, Van Domselaar is out of action for a maximum of six weeks. 'That's if we think broadly. But maybe she'll be back sooner.'

The European Championship starts for the Orange Lionesses on July 5, against Wales.
Andries Jonker's team will also meet England (July 9) and France (July 13) in the group stage.

This is the 'very smart' new coach of the Orange Lionesses: 'Coincidence does not exist with him'

Numerous foreign top clubs in women's football have been eyeing his services in recent years, but only now is Arjan Veurink (38) stepping out of Sarina Wiegman's shadow again. He will be the new national coach of the Orange Lionesses. "Perfectionist? Maybe too much."

From what I (fsf) understand, he just recently completed his top coaching study and thus just recently got his top coaching licence.

I have to correct myself. Veurink is expected to get his UEFA Pro licence in June this summer.

Vivianne Miedema gave a positive medical update in her column in the Algemeen Dagblad on Wednesday. The attacker suffered a hamstring injury two weeks ago in the Nations League that keeps her on the sidelines for the time being. In the English media, a question mark was even put behind her European Championship participation with the Dutch women's national team next summer. Now she has given a definite answer herself. 'In any case, the European Championship is not in danger.'

The KNVB presented the shirts in which the Orange Lionesses will play next summer at the European Championship 2025 on Tuesday evening. The new kits are a subtle tribute to an iconic Orange shirt from the past.
The new design is based on the Total 90 shirt, in which the Dutch national team played at the European Championship 2004 in Portugal and of which a renewed collector's item was recently launched on the market. The lion was also central to the chest then. According to the football association, the kit is also inspired by the Dutch art movements from the nineties.

  13. The Orange Lionesses are in the final of the European Under-17 Championship.
Maren Groothoff played a leading role in the semi-final against France.
After ninety minutes of play, it was 1-1 and no more goals were scored in extra time.
The goalkeeper stopped Maissa Fathalla's decisive penalty in the penalty shootout.

Orange Under-17 Lionesses crowned European champion

Orange Under-17 Lionesses was crowned European champion on Saturday evening. The team of national coach Sherida van Bruggen was too strong for the peers of Norway in the final on the Faroe Islands: 2-1.

The Dutch Under-17 team was in the group with host country Faroe Islands, Norway and Austria and became the clear group winner by winning all three matches. Of the group with Italy, France, Spain and Poland, no country made it to the final, partly because the Netherlands won in the semi-final on penalties against the French football players.
In the final, the Dutch took the lead after just three minutes. Tess van der Vliet was put away and scored after an excellent through ball from Anne Gelevert. Later in the second half, striker Ranneke Derks controlled a high cross and shot in the 2-0.
    upload_2025-5-17_23-37-28.png
After the break, Norway, of which the Dutch had already won 2-0 in the group, did something back through Marie Preus, who went around the keeper and scored. The Netherlands had more of the ball, created more chances and eventually deservedly took the win.
Thus, the Orange Under-17 somewhat surprisingly wins the European Championship.

The Dutch women's national team will lose assistant coaches Arvid Smit and Janneke Bijl to the English Football Association.
After next summer's European Championships, they will make the switch. Smit started his job as an assistant in 2019. Bijl has fulfilled that role since 2022. They have already worked with England national coach Sarina Wiegman in the past and are now reunited with her. They will therefore not work under the new national coach of Orange Arjan Veurink.

  16. Dutch international Lynn Wilms is transfer-free after this season.
The right back of VfL Wolfsburg will leave the club after the end of her contract. Wilms has been playing in Germany since 2021, Wolfsburg took her over from FC Twente that year. In Germany, she became champion and won several cups. She also played with Wolfsburg in the Champions League final. The full-back played her fiftieth international match for the Orange Lionesses this year.

  17. Vivianne Miedema has a chance to win a prize. The ex-striker of Arsenal received a nomination for Most Beautiful Goal of the Season as a player of Manchester City.

Shanice van de Sanden returns to the Orange Lionesses. The player from Pachuca is part of the selection for the final Nations League matches. On Friday, March 30, the Dutch will visit Germany, Tuesday, June 3, a home game against Scotland awaits. Van de Sanden was last part of the selection of the Dutch national team in February.

Slegers and Van Domselaar are the best in Europe: 'Roller coaster of emotions'

Crucial saves Daphne van Domselaar and golden substitute Renée Slegers help Arsenal to final victory: 'So much strength in my team'
Arsenal has won the Women's Champions League for the second time in club history. The final against FC Barcelona at the Estádio José Alvalade in Lisbon ended 1-0 in favor of Renée Slegers' team, who had a golden hand of substitution. Moreover, there was an important role for Daphne van Domselaar.

The Orange Lionesses will have to play against Germany next Friday without first keeper Daphne van Domselaar in the context of the Nations League. This is reported by the KNVB on Tuesday evening.

Van Domselaar (second from the right in the photo) won the Champions League with Arsenal last Saturday, in a 1-0 final against Barcelona in which the Dutch goalie was very much put to work. However, the stronghold of the Lionesses did not come out of the battle unscathed. She is not fit enough to be part of the match selection on Friday. However, she will remain with the team to work on her recovery. National coach Andries Jonker has called up Regina van Eijk from Ajax as a replacement. She will therefore be in the match selection when the Netherlands faces Germany on Friday evening in Bremen. It is an important match for the Lionesses, the winner of the duel will most likely report in the final round of the Nations League.

Worrying evening for Lionesses in the run-up to the European Championship: Germany makes mincemeat of Orange
    Nations League
The Orange Lionesses must pray that all top players are fit for the upcoming European Championship in Switzerland. If not, a second European title is a utopia. The Netherlands was completely painted off on Friday evening in Bremen by Germany, which painfully demonstrated the gap between the Netherlands and a top country: 4-0.

With the European Championship in sight, the Lionesses grew more and more convinced that great things can happen at the European Championship in Switzerland. 'We can beat anyone', is invariably the motto of the Dutch formation.
A motto that was very harshly rammed into the fridge by Germany on Friday evening. The Netherlands was trumped on all fronts by the number 3 in the world and was lucky that the German abacus was stuck on four goals.
"Don't worry about it: that's impossible," said national coach Andries Jonker prior to the Nations League match. He answered the question of whether he wanted to see in Bremen how the Netherlands is doing compared to a European top country, of which there are two waiting in the group stage of the European Championship with England and France. With games against Scotland and Finland still on the program, Germany could be seen as the last big test towards those tough European Championship duels.
Of course, with Vivianne Miedema, Daphne van Domselaar and Lineth Beerensteyn, three top players were missing and Victoria Pelova and Daniëlle van de Donk could only play a maximum of one half, but that should not be an excuse for the fact that the Netherlands was outclassed in every respect. Romée Leuchter - striker of Paris Saint-Germain - ran three strokes around, but never appeared in the game. In addition to the offensive impotence, it was also the defense and midfield that were run passed on all sides.

Andries Jonker: 'Plan not well executed again'
"Germany was much better than us. We knew how they were going to play, but we didn't find the solution. We have come up with the same strategy as last time, but we have not executed it well again and so lost again," said national coach Andries Jonker afterwards at the NOS.
"Germany plays in a tight block, tries to win the ball there and then strike quickly in the counterattack. I have explained what we have to do to avoid falling into that trap, but we can't get it done. We manage to do it in the last half hour, but then it is already 4-0. Everyone wants to see a good Orange. This is disappointing, for us too, but we don't get confused. That doesn't help at all. We've had a tick before. The most important thing is the European Championship in a month. Tuesday against Scotland is also all about that European Championship, so we play with a completely different line-up.
Individually, there were bright spots with the playing time for Jill Roord and Victoria Pelova, but as a team it was not good enough."

Jackie Groenen: 'It just wasn't right'
Jackie Groenen was captain and called her teammates together after 25 minutes, after the 2-0 of Germany.
"It just wasn't right tonight. It was not right in the passing and coordination," Groenen said at the NOS.
"I think we've had good games in the past period. So this was unexpected. We went into it full of confidence after a good week of training, but we were very sloppy in the passing. I tried to keep the group together after the 2-0. We wanted to play too beautiful football and Germany took advantage of that. This is also a way to get better again. We can play much better football than this. In five weeks the European Championship will come, then we will just be there."

  23. Vivianne Miedema drops out of the Orange Lionesses, but hope for the European Championship remains: 'She is cut from the same cloth as Arjen Robben'

Vivianne Miedema has to miss the Nations League match of the Orange Lionesses against Scotland on Tuesday. The attacker is not fit enough and has left the training camp. There is confidence in European Championship participation: "She is cut from the same cloth as Arjen Robben."

Miedema (28) suffered a hamstring injury at the beginning of April during Austria - the Netherlands. She seemed to have recovered sufficiently for this international period. On Friday, in the 4-0 loss against Germany, she did not yet come into action, but on Tuesday in Tilburg she could possibly play again against Scotland. That plan is now being cancelled after all.
"I feel sorry for her," said national coach Andries Jonker on Monday. "It's unbelievable that you work so hard for so long and then every time something happens that you just don't reach your goal. That disturbs you," said the coach of the Orange Lionesses, who is nevertheless confident that the all-time top scorer of the Netherlands is fit enough to start the preparation for the European Championship on June 19.

"We have spoken extensively with each other and we have made an ambitious plan that is completely correct on paper," said Jonker, who refers to the injury that Arjen Robben suffered before the 2010 World Cup.
"He got so angry that he prepared himself well and could still play football.
Vivianne is cut from the same cloth and she is going to make a huge effort to be there on June 19. I believe that she will succeed. She wants to be there at the European Championships and that is the star that she is." The Dutch selection will take on Wales (5 July), England (9 July) and France (13 July) in the group stage at the European Championship. Jonker did not want to speculate on the question of whether he would call up Miedema if, for example, she could only participate in the games against England or France.
