    I pointed out it was fascism in 2015. Then in April 2025 it was being debated on here if MAGAe could be called fascists.

    You summarised exactly what it has been like for outsiders watching.

    Personally I think most of the US has been in denial and the rest are horny for it.

    If it weren't the Charlie Kirk murder, it would have been something else in the next few weeks. That was simply an excuse to do what they were already intending to do.

    The guy who shot three five cops, and killed three of them, in south central Pennsylvania would have been rebranded as an immigrant-sympathizing non-binary Antifa terrorist.

    My fav was the lady who follows Bari Weiss for left wing views.

    Then there was the guy who launched in to a huge defence of Nick Fuentes and why questioning the Jews control of America is not Nazi.

    This makes perfect sense. Any voter sub 30 and never known anything but MAGA v Woke (insert random conspiracy here) at this stage. An entire generation thinks this garbage is normal political discourse.

    I didn't see a mental health thread (there was one from 2008, so I didn't bump it)

    There have been some recent studies about how liberals reported more mental health issues than conservatives.

    The right wing used that to argue liberals are crazier.

    Well it turns out if you ask the same questions but replace mental health with mood. The results even out.

    It occurs to me that one possible outcome of a protracted shutdown is this:

    1. The shutdown last long enough that people start receiving their dramatically increased ACA premiums.
    2. People erroneously associate the higher premiums with the shutdown.
    3. The GOP runs with it and the Dems get the blame for the higher premiums.
