It was a problem, but losing Altidore was not a problem LD would solve. AJ is still as much of a like for like as the US had available.
If the argument is that the US should have been playing a different system, one that accommodated LD's considerable strengths, that's a different argument. But the system they were playing would put him in the, what, Zusi role. I can't remember. I don't really care.
But he wasn't a like for like for Altidore.

Yeah, but, he didn't say it was like for like, did he? That's your straw man.

Most coaches have several different systems they can shift in and out of as the situation demands.
Of course, our coach brought in an injured Johansson and stuck to his system.

Hence, that's why the OP identified the problem.

It seems like the system worked and I'd say changing your system up 1-0 against Ghana is a questionable.

But the team solved the short term problem. They beat a team that had ended their last two world cups. It is a pretty tough argument to suggest we should have done something else.

It isn't a straw man, it is an acceptance of reality. Klinsi stuck with his system. He was going to sub in as close to a like for like as he could.
IMO tactical flexibility is far more common and effective at club than country level. For country, getting folks together on one system can be a chore (and one not always solved). Throwing in a plan B often means tweaking Plan A.

Yea, as much as some would move the goalposts, this is right on.

That's the wrong way to look at it. He wouldn't have replaced Jozy. He (maybe) would have replaced Dempsey as an attacking mid. Bradley sucked in the role.

Right on? What is important is that we beat Ghana. I'm pretty sure that isn't moving goal posts or a straw man.

Okay, but if Klinsi had been thinking that was an option, he would have brought LD. He didn't see LD that way. We might, on BS, believe that just shove the lineup around a bit for LD and all is well, but that wasn't how he was seen by the manager. So, had LD been on the roster, I think it's highly unlikely he would have been seen as a solution to the injury problem.
We can disagree all we want, but while arguing over who should now be the national team manager is a tried and true tradition, going back as far as national teams and bar chats, the argument over who was the national team manager seems rather pointless. In this case, had LD been included in the team, he would have been included in Klinsi's team, he would have played where Klinsi liked him.

Klinsy doesn't seem to understand that players get hurt and suspended.

His grand plan to replace Jozy was apparently prayer. I'm willing to bet that the players on the team would have preferred Landon to any of the alternatives available.

sorry, ms, I'm with 50/50 here. Leave Landon out of it, just look at the rest of the roster. Does it look like a roster designed to withstand multiple negative scenarios?

Now that our LD replacement has arrived on stage, can we finally let this go?

Does anyone have video of Donovan's games during his first stint at Everton? He played amazingly against multiple top teams and I'd really like to make highlight videos. Thanks!

Is there any level of play that would earn him a recall?

It would be hilarious if he finished the season afire. I really hope that this is true.

He thought about the upcoming qualifier with Mexico and had to give it another shot. Mexico can't get rid of the guy. He's like what Rafa Marquez is to us.

I would pay good money for him to play in that game. Just to stare Rafa down.

Obviously, it's safe to assume that he's still going to be retired from national team but if if we had a different manager, there is no doubt in my mind he would get a chance to play. Landon Donovan at 34 fit is still a top 23 player. He's better than Bedoya and Zusi.
