Did not know this (was a Jeopardy clue):

In Denmark, you can’t name your baby whatever you want. In fact, there’s a pre-approved list you can choose from,” she says in the video.

Let’s say the name you’ve always dreamt of naming your kid is not on that pre-approved list, Samples says you’ll need to plead your case to the church. These measures are put into place to help ensure the well-being of a child and help them not have names bestowed upon them that couple negatively impact them for their entire life.

  2. Well, in the Netherlands there's not an approved list you can/have to choose from, but the civil servant registering your newborn can refuse a name, if he/she thinks it's harmful for the child. Of course you can challenge that ...in court, not to some imbecil that believes in a fairytale entity.
Given some names kids have to carry though life I've seen, I wished they used that power more often.

There was a Green Party candidate in Illinois named Rich Whitney whose name was misspelled on the ballot.

Not many people wanted to vote for Rich Whitey, apparently.

A #seagull struck by a ball during an amateur soccer league final in #Turkey survived after falling unconscious. Thanks to team captain Gani Catan, who performed CPR, the bird revived and was later treated by medical personnel. His team lost the match, but Catan later said that saving a life was more important. #nbc10philly

Green Party!? I thought for sure with a name like that, he'd be a Republican.

Beemster voted the best cheese in the world: 'When you score so high, you know that everything is right'
The best cheese in the world comes from the Netherlands. Or rather: from North Holland. The Beemster Royaal Grand Cru was voted the tastiest of 3375 participating cheeses on Friday in Wisconsin, USA, with an almost perfect score. Domestic editors 6 March 2026, 14:27 Last update: 14:37 The Beemster Royaal Grand Cru, made by Cono Cheesemakers in Westbeemster, participated in the World Championship Cheese Contest. For three days, the cheeses competed for the coveted main prize. With an impressive score of 98.68 out of 100 points, Beemster - a rich, nutty cheese made from cow's milk - beat the Swiss Appenzeller Purple (98.45 points). The number three also comes from Switzerland: the Alter Fritz, a matured hard cheese with a reddish-brown rind.

If we could only change the trajectory of some ass-troids here on Earth

The spacecraft changed the binary system’s orbit, confirming that a kinetic impactor can be an effective planetary defense technique for deflecting a near-Earth object.

New research reveals that when NASA’s DART (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) spacecraft intentionally impacted the asteroid moonlet Dimorphos in September 2022, it didn’t just change the motion of Dimorphos around its larger companion, Didymos; the crash also shifted the orbit of both asteroids around the Sun. Linked together by gravity, Didymos and Dimorphos orbit each other around a shared center of mass in a configuration known as a binary system, so changes to one asteroid affect the other.

As detailed in a study published on Friday in the journal Science Advances, observations of the pair’s motion revealed that the 770-day orbital period around the Sun changed by a fraction of a second after the DART spacecraft’s impact on Dimorphos. That change marks the first time a human-made object has measurably altered the path of a celestial body around the Sun.

Wisconsin actually does some pretty good cheeses. Sometimes they can be hard to find because a lot of the stores are either grocery chain or touristy, but they are out there. And I do like my cheese.

One of the things a lot of people rave about is cheese curds, which is a Wisconsin staple. Had then enough to know that they are shit, even with good cheese.

But, I will say that most of the cheese I favor are from the the Lowlands area of Europe.

You probably already know of this company, but just in case..

It has simplified our holiday gift giving, for sure.

I agree with you on the curds - give the microbes a chance to impart some flavor.

Was able to see it a few times growing up - amazing.

I also thoroughly enjoyed driving up I-5 when the poppies were in bloom (I think also CA 138 and Antelope Valley).

I went a couple years ago for a good, but not quite super, bloom. As with last time, we'll also spend a few days around Bishop and Whitney Portal fly fishing the Owens river. A little hut in there is on the shortlist of places inside the US that I'd retire.
