Ever since the Merchant’s House Museum opened its doors to the public in 1936, visitors have lined up to get a taste of “old New York.” Don't they mean New Amsterdam?
@roby - jot these down Derived from the manosphere acronym “AMOG,” or “Alpha Male of the Group,” to “mog” someone means to visibly outshine them: to have a sharper jawline, a better outfit, a stronger presence in a group photo, or more “rizz” (charisma). Whether it’s delivered as an insult or intended as praise, the message behind the word is always the same: achieving dominance over someone else. It’s the latest component of a linguistic style that has circulated online for years, particularly among certain right-wing circles and young men focused on self-improvement and appearance. Going to the extreme is “maxxing,” while boosting your own charisma is “aura farming.” https://www.nbcnews.com/pop-culture/viral/mog-maxxing-clavicular-take-over-the-internet-rcna258999
Bonobo knowhow In a set of carefully designed experiments modeled on children’s tea parties, researchers at Johns Hopkins University found that an ape could engage in pretend play. The results mark the first controlled demonstration that an ape can imagine objects that are not actually there, a skill long considered uniquely human. Across three separate tests, the bonobo interacted with invisible juice and imaginary grapes in a consistent and reliable way. The performance challenges longstanding assumptions about the limits of animal cognition. https://scitechdaily.com/this-bonobo-just-did-something-scientists-thought-only-humans-could-do/
'New' car from 1982 found in French barn: 'Owner never dared to drive her new car' It is the dream of every car enthusiast: to open the doors of an old barn and find a classic car that has been there for many years. In France, such a barn find was recently made: a Renault 5 from 1982 was conjured up from under the dust. The car has only driven 12 kilometers in its 44 years of life. According to the car magazine La Vie de l'Auto, the car was ordered in 1982 by a woman from the municipality of Laives. She would have saved for years for her dream car and could pay 40,000 francs. The woman opted for a five-door Renault 5 TL, equipped with the 1108 cc engine and a four-speed gearbox. She also chose a rare blue-gray paint. The car was then delivered to the home by the garage a few weeks later, a 12-kilometer ride. The woman parked her new acquisition in the garage because she did not have a driver's license at the time. Although the woman eventually got her driver's license, she never really felt comfortable behind the wheel, according to the car magazine. That's why the Renault remained in the garage.
Been watching afarTV's live stream of the Mayon volcano a few weeks. Really neat to see the lava stream down the mountain. Most of the reading I've done suggests that it won't get much worse, and it is unlikely to become explosive at this point. Still, watching it at night is really cool. And the early morning hours when the sun is just rising with all those colors is amazing.

I don't think "maxxing" nor "aura farming" are necessarily specific to right-wing spaces. According to some of the yoots I work with.
I'd rather have that little, basic, vintage R5 than those new ugly electric Renault 5 that cost 30000 euros
I owned an old Citroën CX for a while. I sold it at a low price because there were too many mechanic issues for my taste. I suppose it would cost much more now.
My grandfather in the Champagne used to have a garage where he sold Citroen cars. When I visited I loved riding in the back of his Citroen DS.
Citroën used to make some very cool cars. My grandfather was working in one of their factory in Rennes.
