She has not been alive for more than seventy years, yet Wilhelmina Fokkolina Meppelder is currently the subject of a large heirs hunt in Rotterdam. Who was she and why does the woman who once sighed - 'there is no one who knows me anyway' - unexpectedly make the news again?
If she could see what's going on, she might find it quite funny that she now is known by hundreds of thousands newspaper readers

So what's going on?

She owned a small piece of land in Rotterdam.
A piece of land on the Hilledijk in Rotterdam still belongs to someone, the municipality is looking for the owner. The new housing project construction cannot start now. (inset: Meppelder in the newspaper archives).
So there's a hunt going on for the heirs, but that has proven to be challenging.
The saying is that if you're still talked about after you died, you're not dead.

Over here we have "eminent domain." The government would just take the land, maybe set aside some money to pay the owner if one ever turns up.

I took 18+ minutes out of what is left my life to watch this. Pretty good distraction.

 

That might be uncommon down in Altadena, but it's very, very common in California's mountains. It's legitimately something I worry about.

 

Glad the worst thing I have to worry about is a possum crapping in my yard.

It struck me today that Bob the Builder is in the slave trade - he doesn't pay his employees and they are never seen taking a break or having personal time. I'm just not sure if he's the slave owner or just the overseer and someone else is the money behind the slavery.
