Sitting atop Mt Langley with visions of a root beer float at Foster Freeze in Lone Pine. Odd as you say, I always dunked fished and drank from the streams without a problem. I always seemed to catch my share of trout. Especially in the Golden Trout area. There was Fav Lake off trail that I loved to camp at. With nice sized Pink fleshed Golden, Last time I went, as I got to the lake there was a blast of an explosion. Saw a guy there so tapped him on the back, scared the crap out of him. He thought he and his partner were alone. He told me that they were building a trail from Canada to Mexico. The PCT. Oh and by the way, there are a few Golden Trout Left. !!! The last time I saw Chicken Spring Lake. Coming out of Mammoth Lakes area always finished across the Highway at The Hot Pools. Nice to soak the mossie bites out.
That was scary. Ive seen more than one rockslide start just seemingly from the heat of the morning sun. That could take you all out. Not saying I wouldn’t have done it with you.
And yet you were holding your camera in your hand. Now, I have never hit a stretch of trail like that with as heavy a pack as you were carrying, but I have tossed my day pack because I wasn't comfortable descending with my center of gravity out of whack. But you are right about vertigo. It comes out of nowhere.
For spring break last year, I took my son for a week to Death Valley. We spent a few days between Mammoth and Whitney Portal fishing. I could see myself moving somewhere along 395 in a few years. Then again, there's a lot of places I could see myself moving in a few years.
My parents were outdoor people before I grew to a reasonable walkable age (and maybe even a bit after). They used to brag about hiking up Whitney. Not sure if they lugged me along in a "backpack" or not. I know I did Pikes Peak when I was 6 or 7. Well, part of Pikes Peak. I think it was from some parking lot to around 12k, but it got too cold for the clothes I was wearing and a bit late in the day. Still, I remember the view. Amazing.
That was one of those trips that I wish I could go back and choose different gear. I had at least 10lbs of crap I didn't need. I was happy I'd packed as much clothing as I did though - it hit single digits at the end of the week.
Woman gets pulled over & arrested in OH for driving on suspended list. Cop sees her pet raccoon playing with her meth pipe.
Oh look - Tottenham still has plenty of time. Advance mathematical models have predicted than the Sun expansion will significantly worsen air quality, as Earth temperatures rise. According to these calculations, life on Earth will be impossible by the year 1,000,002,021 – which means there are still 999,999,996 years to go until then. https://www.lagradaonline.com/en-us/say-goodbye-life-earth-complete-extinction-thermal-energy/
Um no. If we're super lucky we might have 500,000 years or so - but I doubt that very much. Let's put it this way, 5-7 million years ago lived the ancestor of both humans and chimps. 10 million years ago lived the ancestor of humans/chimps and gorillas. Or to put it another way, the common ancestor of modern humans and Neanderthal humans lived about 500,000 years ago.
It doesn’t seem to have any effect. The California thread in particular is mostly him talking to himself.
I can always count on your pedantry. I wouldnt have stated it as such in conversation with you. I meant more as in "trilobytes were around for…", "dinosaurs were around for…". Not that our species would be the same for 200-300million years. More that our branch of the genetic tree will likely not survive that time period, unless we pull a whale and go back to the ocean. and with how rapidly we are changing our environment, 500k might be optimistic for Homo sapiens (sapiens).
On land, raccoons and honey badgers. The birds might take over, crows & ravens? I’m rooting for octopi.
What land? The one that will be covered in 10,000 years? The only thing I think will prevent the orcas from taking over is their lack of genetic diversity.
I don’t have a ton of luck with TikTok, but this is a quick rundown of what the coastlines would look like if Antarctica and Greenland melted. Plus wildfires. https://images.app.goo.gl/w2nC3t1sC1YLRW2R8
Considering we haven't been around that long, there is a distinct possibility the human race could be completely wiped out and an entirely new race of humanoids emerge in that timeframe. It may have already happened.
