It opens in the USA tomorrow. The "Dictator" was on with Jon Stewart on the awful Daily Show last night on The Global Edition.

That very irritating Mark Kermode who has two hours every Friday on Radio 5 prattling away about films doesn't like it.

However The Mail on Sunday geezer does - very much:

Curious to how this movie deserves it's own thread. Is it that good, or that controversial?

A Cohen film is always a big deal, Scouse. In its first week it went to No1 in the UK.

Does anyone know how it is doing in the USA?

My college-age son persuaded me to watch it. What a load of crap. Cohen is Adam Sandler with a British accent and a few politically correct anti-anti-Semitism jibes thrown in. Skip it except for the helicopter scene.

What did you think of Borat and Bruno?

Tried watching it Saturday night with the wife, 15 minutes in and she hated it so we switched to something different. I was enjoying it for what it was so I think I'll finish it tonight.

I loved Borat, never saw Bruno, so I have hopes for this one.

He´s a lot better than Sandler but a lot worse than people give him credit for.

It's wrong to compare him to some mere actor. His creations (including Ali G) have been remarkable (even if the Ali G film wasn't - I'm thinking of the TV series (The English one) with interviews with politicians and the like).

I was talking about his movies but I stand by it. Plus like I said, he is overly superior to Sandler but I don´t know why it´s not fair to compare him to Cohen or that it´s so different what they do besides the difference in level of talent.

Movie was really bad. And I really liked Borat and Bruno, as well as his Ali G material.

I don't know much about Sandler other than he's an actor. Cohen is considered a comedy genius (and the best according to Ricky Gervais for example) for the characters he has created along with his interviews with unsuspecting experts in their fields.

For those who haven't seen his Comic Relief interview with Beckham and posh for a while, here it is:

I was impressed with the brilliant Ali G's stand against racism at the British Comedy Awards the other night when he pointed out he was the only black attending the event now that Lenny Henry was dead.

Americans need that joke translated, since a web search leads me to conclude Lenny Henry is alive. I mean, sure, during the last season of Chef he died over and over, but that was due to the terrible writing.

It wasn't the Lenny Henry part of it that interested me- more the observation about the absence of blacks ( and the fact he's white). SBC won the Lifetime Achievement type King of Comedy Award and was the only winner to come up with anything funny. In fact he was brilliant. Not seen anything as good since Gervais used to be turning it on each year.

Did any of you foreigners watch the video of Ali G with David Beckham a couple of posts up? What did you make of it?
