I never missed a PK in a competitive match and that included HS, Club and one season of D1 JV.

Of course, I was never asked to take a PK in a competitive match, but that doesn't change the stat. Never missed.

If CP had numbers even remotely close to Messi I wouldn't have been as harsh. Heck, I would be happy if he could just get to 20 goals in a Serie A season. I think this miss might hurt his chances to do that this season and I fully expect his assist numbers to decrease because Modric is taking all the FKs/Corners now. Just wish the US had a player that could crack the top 20 in the Ballon d'Or.

And the thing of it is…I think almost everyone would think for sure Pulisic would convert the PK, given his form going into this game. If it had been weeks of Pulisic going without any goal contribution, or weeks of mediocre performances, failing to convert wouldn’t have been so surprising.

    amen

it happens - he is human

in a humorous thought - maybe I saw the face of that grouper sitting at the lower right and he wanted to make sure he did not hit it.

It was a baggio type of miss.

also, he gave leao an absolute sitter so he isnt alone in blame for the loss.

    PAGELLE E TABELLINO JUVENTUS-MILAN 0-0: David fantozziano, tradisce anche Pulisic - CalcioMercato.it

He wastes more time protesting than trying to slip through the gaps in the Juventus defense. He doesn't shine, unable to find the right position behind Gimenez to harm the 'Old Lady.' At the start of the second half, he incredibly sends the penalty for a possible lead over into the stands. Overwhelmed, he lacks the champion player's shot after a worthy start of the season as one of the top players.

Christian Pulisic's missed penalty kick is costly
    [IMG]
Both Christian Pulisic of AC Milan and Jonathan David of Juventus will have regrets about misses (Nderim Kaceli/LiveMedia-IPA/ZUMA Press Wire/ISI Photos)
Christian Pulisic had been almost perfect from the penalty spot for club and country.

    Until Sunday night in Turin.

Pulisic failed to hit the target on his penalty kick in the second half of AC Milan’s 0-0 tie at Juventus. The Rossoneri dropped from first to third, behind Napoli and Roma, in Serie A with the draw

“Pulisic missed the penalty but he had an extraordinary game,” Milan coach Massimiliano Allegri said. “He has always been the penalty kick taker. You don’t change it for a mistake.”

    • PK heroics: Pulisic’s successful penalty kick late in overtime gave the USA a 3-2 win over Mexico and started its four-year domination of El Tri. (His only other miss came last season with Milan when Torino’s Serbian goalkeeper, Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, blocked his effort.)

    Christian Pulisic (penalty kicks):
    ⚽ USA
    World Cup qualifying, 2-for-2
    ⚽ USA
    Concacaf Nations League, 2-for-2
    ⚽ USA
    International friendlies, 3-for-3
    ⚽ AC Milan
    Serie A, 3-for-5
    ⚽ AC Milan
    Supercoppa Italiana, 1-for-1

    From the Press:
Gazzetta dello Sport on Pulisic: “He has never scored in Serie A against Juve, and his losing streak continues. He misses the penalty to make it 1-0: a serious error. An ‘assist’ on Leao’s chance isn’t enough to redeem him.” (Gazzetta dello Sport ratings: Pulisic 5. 1=low; 10=high.)

Man, that is a helluva of a 'what have you done for me lately" take by Gazzetta. I mean, it was a bad miss, but wow.

I guess this is a good example of how playing in big European clubs has to make your mental resolve stronger.

Pulisic posted an apology on IG and said he would work 10x harder now, maybe this will help mold him into an assasin from the spot. Good to see that Allegri backed him and appears to not be taking the penaty duty from him. But next time he takes one, can't lie, I will be pretty nervous for the kid. Hopefully he is not.

What do you mean? Its a single game rating and he missed a PK

It is not the rating or the poor penalty, it was just some of the wording seemed harsh to me - specifically "his losing streak continues" and a decent pass to Leao cannot "redeem."

I have no issue with the rating nor criticism, and am fully aware it was a costly miss.It was just funny wording to me

hm, yeah idk. its a translation, and almost assist isn't enough to redeem the penalty miss in the game. i don't take that as super harsh personally.

Very true. And it is why we are glad our Yanks are playing abroad at the highest levels, where the pressure is high

Yeah, I meant to type in my previous post that it is probably just a translation thing that I just didn't read through the correct perspective.

You really do have to marvel sometimes at what kind of level 11 waterproofing the skin of your average sports star must have. My therapy bills would dwarf most national deficits.

I thought Pulisic re-aggravated his ankle issue in Denver last night, but reports today suggest he felt something in his hammy. The good new is it appeared he was walking fine when headed to the locker room, and it seems like there may have been an element of precaution to the substitution, rather than an all out injury. Still not confirmed, though.
Regardless, I'd be very surprised if we see him play vs Roma this weekend. He sure as heck won't be starting the match.

These refs do a horrible job protecting puli. How was that only a yellow? Guy blatantly chopped his legs on a breakaway. Awful play

well, playing in Denver in the middle of fall was not a smart move...I would also say that star players should be left with their club team and let the fringe players battle for a spot.

his walk to the locker room before half time seemed like a normal stride to me, but he did have an angry/frustarted look about him.
If you made me guess, I'd say 2 weeks out. but looking forward to Milan's assessment.

A month ago if he skipped out, everyone would have been up in arms. Now Poch has control of this team and it led to CP10 having the mentality that he must play.

I was at the match last night. I was sitting 6 rows up behind the US bench and had a bird's eye view of the two needless and senseless tackles he endured. I have not seen the replays and don't know how much the camera caught it, but he was the recipient of several swipes on his ankles off the ball. He wasn't just heavily marked. He was targeted. I usually brush off the targeting a player talk but I witnessed it last night. The Aussies were super spicy. They were dicks. I was a little surprised to see that behavior.
