Can we toss Gavin Newsome into the San Andreas Faultline already? Dude talked with Ben "I totally won't get my face eaten" Shapiro and all two hours of it is him being the world's worst Republican. And this is who the Dem establishment wants as the nominee in 28.

Then talking of fascists, we were weren’t we?
How about some Drumpf/Hitler followers and influencers for the right wing.

'Losers': Far-right influencers dogpiled after seen chanting Heil Hitler on party bus

    ‘partial’
The influencers included Andrew Tate – a pro-Trump influencer who was arrested on rape and human trafficking charges, though has denied the allegations – Nick Fuentes – an outspoken white supremacist and open admirer of Adolf Hitler – and a handful of several other influencers associated with the far right, all seen singing along to the controversial song “Hiel Hitler” by Ye, formally known as Kanye West.

“A collection of rapists, pedophiles, con artists, racists, antisemites, and meth addicts,” wrote X user “AG,” who writes about politics on their Substack and has amassed more than 214,000 followers. “Perhaps the biggest group of losers I have ever seen in my life.”

The author shouldn’t sugar coat his stories. Lots more on the link ‘Wrote’

The DNC isn't anti-everything Mandani does? Pro Israel being able to do whatever they want? Pro surveillance state? Pro Palentir? Pro not just funding ICE, but increasing their budget? Anti sanctuary laws?

All things Gavin just gave support for and dozens of Dems, including Leadership, are for?

Ok. They don't support him, except ideologically.

That's a great question! I think Shapiro is another candidate. But the good news is that there's going to be a robust primary. The fact that the Dems don't have a clear front runner right now is probably a good thing for the party as there's going to be a robust debate about policies and direction of the party

    Kama-lot!

I know ICs are reluctant but she's still young enough with some IC qualities like being tough on child predators & democracy predators. I'd be surprised if she picked an IC AG like Sleepy Merrick.

Can we talk about this? And not to single this post out, but "they're all terrible!" without clearly articulating what you'd like to see is punishable by another 4 years of Dixie car horns.

    Sure, happy to.

In order for our Democracy to survive, we need not just substantial change, but harsh enforcement against the fascists. Abolishing ICE is a moderate position. They need to be arrested en mas and tried by the dozen. The leaders of this administration should face harsher trials and there should be zero dancing about. Everything anyone could need is all on tape.

That won't cut out the rot, but it's a start. The financiers need to be held accountable. Money has to get out of politics or well just be right back here. Billionaires can't be any more influential than any other singular voice. Tax away and treat them like any other chump.

Universal healthcare, childcare, school food....ending homelessness. All of it is more than within our reach. Force those rotten companies and billionaires to pay since they can't be trusted to do it on their own.

Speaking of companies... corporations are not people. Nor is profit the end goal for their existence. Eternal growth and profit at the expense of everything else is another driving factor for why we're here. Introduce a little humanity, or dare I say worker coop, into the picture. Beef up the IRS to go after the trillions of dollars hidden from the government.

    That'd be a good start.

The rising tide of antisemitism casts doubt on this.

The old antisemitic "dual loyalty" canard popped up even in the Harris campaign:

Josh Shapiro Settles Some Scores - The Atlantic
    http://archive.today/g8QmP

Like I said in the other thread, antisemitism is quickly rising in this country on both the left and the right. It's a major problem for Shapiro -- even in the primary.

I was just putting him out as another potential candidate. The other options aren't much better, tbh. Buttigieg has his fans, but he's gay and moderate to conservative. Harris has obvious issues. Sanders and Warren have age issues, Jeffries is completely out for obvious reasons, etc, etc, etc. Right now, I don't know of a "clean" Democratic candidate.

Then she should be Attorney General. The problem is she's terrible at the job of getting elected. Her interviews were disasters.

Yes and it's self fulfilling because people decide not to support a woman/POC/jew etc because they think too many other people in America are racist.

Mamdani and Newsom are two different people.
Positions on issues and specific pols are two different things.

I know we are living in vertiginous times. My intent was to bring us back to reality and away from hysterical posts.

No, this is different. This is antisemitism in the Democratic Party. Not a belief that people outside the Democratic Party won't support such a candidate.

There’s no such thing as a candidate without problematic incidents or positions who also has enough experience to be acceptable to low information voters. Those two things are contradictory. Obama was the closest we’ve had on the first count, but his lack of experience was a legitimate concern before the election, and also in retrospect.

it’s way too early, because Trump is breaking things at a breakneck pace and whatever we believe today will be inoperable in a month, but at some point it’ll be fun for us to have a never ending argument about what is and is not a dealbreaker for the Democratic primaries.

For me, abolish ICE is one thing. It doesn’t have to be that slogan, but ICE is irretrievably broken. It can’t be reformed or re-formed into shape.

Yes someone who served in the IDF is a great candidate to LOSE. Do yall pay attention to the issues that affect the under 40 crowd at all?

And before you say anti-semitism… we have a thing in our constitution that says you have to be a native born American to become President… Not wanting someone with a clear allegiance to another country to be President doesn’t mean you are making that choice out of hate. Boxing someone into that position is logical bullying.

I wouldn’t have wanted someone that served in the SS to become President and many Americans whether you like or not consider what Israel is doing to be a genocide.

This argument is so played out and boring to me. You can’t say that I hate jewish people for criticizing a government. Do people call you all Islamophobes when you criticize Iran on this board? NO. It’s a complete double standard and actually shows prejudice on the part of posters who insist on it.

I really, really wanted her to work out.

There was a part of me, way back in 2019, who thought she was just what the doctor ordered to cleanse the polity of the worst of Trumpism. After four years of "Daddy" I thought we could use an "Aunty" who believed in us but also expected us to put on our big-kid pants and act like citizens and take some ownership of how our republic functions.

But she does have a tendency to glitch out in the spotlight, and at this point it's an image she would have a hard time undoing.
