George Conways running in NYs 12th. Let's see what his primary opponents are saying: Conway has only recently returned to the district, a point that many of his opponents were quick to highlight since he filed paperwork to join the race late last month. "This campaign welcomes George to the race. And the city. And the party," Bores said in a statement, noting Conway’s longtime Republican affiliation. "I personally would be delighted to offer George local dining tips. Tell him to give me a call when he’s in town." Alan Pardee, a former Merrill Lynch managing director running in the Democratic primary, gave a statement drawing a distinction between the work he has done in the district and Conway’s "years living in D.C. advancing a conservative agenda before discovering the monster he helped create." Candidate Jami Floyd, a journalist and former White House fellow in the Clinton administration, said in a statement, "I’m not concerned about George Conway," adding: "George Conway is a life-long conservative Republican and not even from here. So why isn’t he running in Bethesda, Maryland, or Alpine, New Jersey, where he belongs?" https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/20...nway-running-congress-new-york-fig-rcna252088
Fun Fact. My last high school debate victory was against one of the candidates running in the NY 12th district race this year.
I've never done a campaign before. I feel like I would love it though. I did Lincoln-Douglas. Value centered debate. You had to do both sides. The topic at nationals that year was Resolved: Limiting Economic Inequality Ought to Be a More Important Social Goal Than Maximizing Economic Freedom. I didn't lose a single ballot on the Negative (arguing for the maximization of Economic Freedom) so I can probably tell you as a Socialist I could make a better argument for Capitalism than you all who believe in it if I wanted to or needed to!
Wait... "I've never been so targeted as Sounders, though, so I understand the bigotry and frustration come from..." Val, this isn't really very well written. The bigotry is coming from his tormentors. He's frustrated with that.
One of the Lincoln-Douglas debates took place in my home town. About 105 years before I was born, so I missed it. Though in the 90s, when C-Span had local actors re-enact the debates, my high school English teacher was Stephen A. Douglas. I was in the audience for that one. Well, about two hours of it.
D&D players made good losers in the school chess tournament. Extra special was that it was sponsored by Mu Alpha Theta and the math team, neither of which could boast of having me as a member. I told them to just bring my trophy to the band room at their convenience I can hear some of you going, "yeah, like that's any cooler". Percussion was cooler than anything y'all had going on, I promise you that
https://www.politico.com/news/2026/01/14/democrats-ice-funding-appropriations-00726552 Schumer and Jeffries so gotta go. Anyone who supports giving them money should be primaried and shamed. Wtaf....where's the Doom thread?
If nothing else, just cut the budget back to the 10 billion it was during the last year of the Biden administration instead of the nearly 40 billion it is now.
They’re probably thinking, we don’t have the votes so let’s get the best deal we can. Whether or not that strategy was a good idea in 2018 and 2019, that’s arguable either way. It’s a bad strategy today and anyone who believes in that strategy is useless as a leader.
A few months ago, I was listening to a podcast that had Obama as a guest speaker. Long story short, he realized he could not get universal care so pivoted to what is now known as the ACA. The bolded above was the reasoning behind this pivot. He thought a half measure was better than nothing at all. My underlying point is that thinking may have worked before the Tea Party showed up. And it definitely died January 2017. Now it is "see if anyone can stop you." Dems are still laboring that we can get back to the baseline bolded above. Dems think they are in a boxing match but the GOP is in a WWE/MMA match. We are a decade plus to getting back to this, if ever.
As if we needed any more reasons to say Kyrsten Sinema sucks. Turns out that while she was a US Senator, she had an affair with a member of her security detail. She is being sued under North Carolina's alienation of affection law that allows someone whose marriage was broken up by an affair to sue the affair partner. https://www.theassemblync.com/news/...en-sinema-alienation-affection-matthew-ammel/
I'll say it again to never take seriously anyone who makes it a point to show how eccentric they are.
