The number of normies that vote for Republicans shows how false this statement is. If normies actually cared about both sides working together, they would punish Republicans for vilifying Democrats and openly stating that they will not work with Democrats. This is another example of Democrats pre-emptively disarming themselves based on a false narrative that the public actually cares about both parties working together. Again, my post was about the Democratic primary, not the general election. Newsom's position may be popular among the general public, but it is out of step with the position of Democrats.
Newsom has one vulnerability that might sink him: housing. Affordability, availability, homelessness, that’s the issue where the MSM will hammer him in fall of 2028 if he makes it that far.
Maybe? California's issues with housing are largely a local issue, not a state issue. Under Newsom, state Democrats have been trying to drag local Democrats kicking and screaming out of their NIMBYism and they've passed a number of laws that require local Democrats to develop plans to allow more housing development and/or allow developers to ignore local regulations preventing house development if local Democrats fail to develop a plan. Newsom can place the blame on his predecessors and point at those changes and the progress California has made under his Governorship. As an example, under the state housing plan, San Francisco is required to allow at least 82k new housing units and has something like projects for 75,000 housing units in the planning/development stages. The issue is that San Francisco's city government is standing in the way of those projects and it is taking many, many years to get those plans from the planning phase to the approval phase, then even longer to go from the approval phase to the building phase. For the above 75k housing units in planning/development, San Francisco has only approved 42k and even fewer are under construction due to lawsuits from neighbors to the development and even the neighborhood councils that the San Francisco city government gives final authority to.
Considering what Trump is doing, and the well known (by us) Project 2025, defeating Trump would have been a major success. Doesn't matter if it was by 100 votes, or a 100,000,000 votes.
To the people who didn't "know" Kamala Harris, you are asking a lot for people to know that the housing issue in CA is more nuanced than being all over California.
While this is true, Harris wasn’t very good with the press. Newsom is the complete opposite and was one of Biden’s most effective surrogates.. Newsom also isn’t afraid to go on conservative media and counter their narratives.
Have you considered the reason why he felt the need to go on an enemy's show and debate him? Do they come on reas- well, there aren't any more reasonable shows outside public TV- everything else is generally dangerously centrist. When you have to explain that it's better to treat everyone fairly and account for past circumstances that negatively affect some demos while boosting others, you've already lost.
And another one Democrats continued their run of successes in special elections by flipping a state House seat in Georgia Tuesday, according to a projection from the CNN Decision Desk. The Democratic victory, in a district that voted for President Donald Trump by about 12 percentage points last year, comes ahead of next year’s critical midterms, when Georgians will vote in closely watched races for Senate and governor. Eric Gisler, a Democrat who owns a local olive oil store, will defeat Republican Mack “Dutch” Guest in the 121st House District, in the northeastern part of the state, near the college town of Athens. https://www.cnn.com/2025/12/09/politics/georgia-democrat-eric-gisler
Newsom's an effective media operator and considerably better than Harris was... that's certainly true.
Yeah - there is a well trodden path of podcasters engagement farming from each others following In aligned networks you do it by going on each others shows - this was a variant of that IMO. Newsome is starting from effectively zero, so wanted to farm out of the audiences of CK etc. It worked to some extent - everyone knew he had launched a podcast! You can also do it hostile where you generate beef with another influencer/podcaster and then from the shitposting, you generate cross engagement That's what Fuentas and co are currently doing.
IMO it shows how voters are non-rationale and structural/incentive problems For instance large majorities of voters want Congress to deliver affordable healthcare, but congress critters aren't responsive to that because most don't have competitive races. I agree in theory voters should move 20 pts and vote out all the GOPers who went for huge tax cuts in the deficit busting bill while stripping support for working families, but the politics don't work like that
And this is the kind of thing that Texas may run into with it's gerrymandered seats (assuming that it is deemed legal in the end).
I think his bigger issue is that the GOP has portrayed him as the Woke Great Evil for years and he would need to shake that image to appeal to independents.
I think Texas already won their court case. The Supremes said it’s too close to the biannual congressional elections to redraw lines.
Maybe, but I feel very strongly that issue won’t get any traction with legacy media. I feel it’ll be housing issues.
The primary reason is to respond to their lies on their platform. Fox News isn't just watched by Republicans. It is shown in a lot of public spaces and is watched by a lot of Independents and conservative Democrats.
Does the reverse happen very often? Do conservatives go on PBS and say the same things they say in their rallies? I mean, I know how to walk into a buffet and walk back out if I see Fox on the screen and there are too many people watching it to ask that the channel be changed. I'm not registered with any party, but I know better than to accept at face value anything I hear on Fox. It also helps that I try to spend money in places that Black people patronize. It's a little more difficult for Whites to rub our noses in their privilege (by showing Fox to their customers) when they know we help their business stay open.
