I never understood why Democrats wanted to save Trump and Congressional Republicans from the fallout from their policy choices. Let health care costs go up. And contantly remind voters why. Paired with prices remaining high. Republicans will have to own it. It is high time that voters who opted for Trump personally experience the consequences of what he has done as President - as opposed to what he campaigned on. Maybe, just maybe enough will realize he's a fraud, and that he does not give a damn about working class peoplem.
^^^To anyone confused as to why the youth favor Socialism to Capitalism, this video might help explain some things.
This straight, white male Millennial DESERVES a participation trophy for not voting for Trump three times.
Now that the Vichy Democrats have thrown their hands in with the same people who want us to die hungry, sick, and bankrupt, I'm sure convincing the kids to "vote blue no matter who" will go just swimmingly.
They did better than expected, they held off until after this November elections, that was good. They should have held until Republicans broke the Filibuster, that would have been nice, but I guess Republicans called the Democrat Bluff. It is what it is.
While this is true, Axios is reporting Dems are pissed. https://archive.ph/fdnIj House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.) instructed members to keep the focus on health care and not on "a few individuals in the Senate," according to three lawmakers who were on the call. I'd like to know who those "few individuals" are. It seems that this is old (White) people who don't get it. Not all of them, of course, but the younger (non-White) congressional people seem to understand this and don't [edit - do] have the stomach for the fight. Thinking about this kind of reminds me of when I moved to Memphis to start teaching. I was coming from an academic, "midwestern" household that was middle/upper-middle class. Got my job in Memphis teaching at an urban HS that was poor and Black. The attitude to direct and aggressive and I didn't understand on how to deal with my students well. Until I saw a few other staff talking to the students with that directness and an aggressive use to tone. It wasn't mean or belittling, just the way to communicate. And once I started doing that, it made my job much easier, and cut out a lot of the bullshit I was getting from the students. This seems to be the problem with the older (and mostly White) Democratic Senators, that they have been non-confrontational for so long that they can't stomach being confrontational when needed. They have an inability to change. And they need to go.
Mine went up 32%, and that was before subsidies. I'm fortunate that CO has a state law that mandates they match what the federal government would have given for subsidies, which is great for now, but going to take a big hit on the budget next year, and we already had to cut something like $1B from everywhere. Newsom will remind people - he's got a great SM team. Hopefully Piztker will do the same. And other Dems (other than AOC and Crockett).
The Democrats do not have the stomach to watch millions of people go hungry in order to win a political fight. The Republicans do. That is difference and it is that simple.
Na, Schumer is weak. Remember this 2017? Pelosi wasn't taking the bullshit, but Schumer was. He might have been fine in the days pre-Trump (not really when dealing with McConnell) but with Trump, et al, he's feckless. He needs to not just step down/be removed from leadership, he needs to retire from the Senate.
What the Democrats in question don't realize is that surrendering won't stop the Republicans from ending or reducing benefits. It's like giving in to a hostage takers demands so you can then watch him execute all of his hostages.
I hope it gets people to primary and push out the older generation. One thing I always come back to, is that these things take time. Civil Rights legislation didn’t happen overnight, and we’ve had to be ever-vigilant to enforce and keep those rights as they’ve never not been under attack. I hope the lesson most learn here is that a single election doesn’t change anything for long, and it can be much more easily destroyed by a single election.
It's not officially over but I can't imagine the notochord in some Democrats converting into a spine. While not officially over, I knew that the season for my DC United was over by mid summer.
We’ve gotta channel our @Knave -like fury to keep the pressure on these asshats. Also, we need to stay loud so that MAGA knows who is the cause.
Yeaaaah...I'm going to have to go with option B here, Rep Jayapal Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), the former chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, argued that either the Senate leader "can't control his caucus" or he "gave his blessing" to the deal.
So fvckface Durbin said "People don't understand how the Senate works" -- really? Or do you mean "doesn't work." Tell me you're a privileged, out-of-touch asshole who thinks his constituents are too stupid to understand how your pathetic Club House works without telling me you're a privileged, out-of-touch asshole who thinks his constituents are too stupid to understand how your pathetic Club House works.
I don't think it is law? From what I understand it is just a tradition for congress to include back pay in the bill that re-opened the government. A tradition that Trump had said he did not want to be continued.
No, it is currently in law. It was done during Trump I when he was talking about not paying feds who were furloughed. "Federal employees, regardless of whether they are furloughed or excepted, have always received back pay following every past shutdown, due to one-time actions from Congress. It wasn’t until 2019 that Congress passed — and President Donald Trump signed — a law meant to ensure federal employees are compensated retroactively for all shutdowns going forward." https://federalnewsnetwork.com/cong...back-pay-reverses-rifs-for-federal-employees/
It's probably a good indicator of the poor state of the Maine Democratic party that they can't beat Collins and the "best" they can put up is someone that is 77 years old, 5 years older than Collins.. I mean, seriously.. WTF is going on up there?
