Posting here, but really could go in a few threads: https://apnews.com/article/charlie-...nce-reaction-87f6755421938d0a0d7c5905be10767f Several leaders who have survived public attacks or had family members victimized joined in bipartisan condemnation of the attack on Kirk. Um, not quite. The Republicans are doing their version of thoughts and prayers. The Democrats are ALL condemning the attack and all political violence.
It's funny though, all this talk of civil war feels completely incongruent with, say, stepping outside of my front door and going just about any place within a 100-mile radius. Yes, there's more political tension in the air than I can ever remember and yes, we're more deeply divided than ever...but I just don't see things ever devolving into roving bands of paramilitaries going door to door...not really. I even believe we'll see a mid-term national election, and, if things keep going like this, Democrats should win back some power. I can't even believe we have to deal with this ridiculous Trumpy bullshit every day, it's a slap in the face to every lifelong Democrat, but I haven't given up hope that once Trump is gone, we will return to some semblance of normal... ...for me there's life online, which feels like the wheels are coming off, then there's the everyday real world which continues on with folks doing what they have to, to get by.
It absolutely was. I've tried to answer all your questions honestly; I think you should be willing to reciprocate.
Sanders may be right, for the future of the Democrats in the Senate, Democrats should give up on some States and support independents. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/03/20/us/politics/bernie-sanders-democrats-independents.html This dude explains why and why maybe not.
A video interview with a Democrat pollsters. Around minute 15 they talk about young voters, hate Kirk as much as you want, but his college tour program was one of the reason why Republicans are doing well with young voters, specifically young men. (They don't talk about him, but about 2024 results)
Ok. So I got my compliment to Chuck in a couple of weeks ago. Dearest Chuck The only negotiating your caucus should be doing on the upcoming continuing resolution to fund the government is with other Dems. You do not have a good faith partner on the “other side” to entertain in negotiations. You and Jeffries should develop a list of requirements for Dem votes in any CR. Go bold. 1) Medicare funding 2)reinstatement of critical employees that have been gutted from various federal departments 3)resignations or firings of Kennedy, Miller, Hegseth 4)anything else you can think of Draw up your own partisan legislation Then call a press conference Open with school house rock. Make clear that the GOP has a majority in the house, majority in the senate, and the Presidency. They have enough members to pass any CR they choose. It is THEY that will own any shut down. However…if they want Dem votes…this list must be included. No smoky room negotiations with the GOP. No horse trading. Make public demands and stick to your guns. Limit the Smokey room conversations for what will happen to Dem collaborators
This is not good. Trump is losing support among Latinos, but the Democrats are not winning them. A focus group with some Latinos, 7 regret voting for Trump, but none would have voted for Harris (in a rerun), they would have voted 3rd party or stay home. 1968347664816464176 is not a valid tweet id Here is the article https://www.thebulwark.com/p/exclusive-focus-group-trump-bleeding-latino-voters-support BTW can someone confirm if the Bulkward is one of those Never Trump Republicans?
Bulkward? Bulwark, yes. It is so crazy to listen to Bill Kristol and agree with him as often as I do. And honestly, I probably did agree with him a decade or so ago about as much as I do now, but those opinions just never were aired publicly. I still disagree plenty, but we at least agree on the important stuff. Like not wearing white pants in the fall.
Ask brown people in this country if they’re concerned about bands of paramilitaries going door to door and you might get a different answer. Or ask anybody who lives in a place that’s had ICE running rampant or military policing the street. In a country this size you’re never gonna have all this stuff taking place everywhere at once, but to say everything is business as usual is a privileged take.
Do Democrats need to change their message and stance, or just not run a female candidate, particularly one of color? It seems like an assumption on their part that the issue is policy and not sexism.
Similar with the “panic” of XP Lee winning Melissa Hortman’s seat (RIP) with 21% of the vote vs. Kamala carrying the district by 26%. Lots to digest.
Him, and even more surprising, Mona Charen. I actually would have expected her to be in the Trump camp. Glad I was wrong.
My point was that all this online chatter about war is mostly just that, not that everything was business as usual. Please try not to misrepresent what I’m saying. I imagine from your perch of privilege in Petaluma, you’re not seeing signs of a civil war, once you step away from your monitor. That’s not to say that these aren’t terrible times for people being hunted down by ICE. Nothing business as usual about what’s going on in some of our communities - just not civil war which for me sounds like an online fantasy for fanatics.
He doesn't have to try. Nothing's been misrepresented here. What's you're saying can be said only by someone in your extremely privileged position. I've tried to make that point, but dissent seems to be your only interest. That's why I asked you yesterday if you were homeschooled. That would begin to help us all take a better look into your issues.
one; economics, their biggest complain about Trump, he is not reducing inflation like he promised, there is no policy for that, Democrats can hit Trump on Tariffs (and they should) but if people expect prices to actually go down then there is nothing truthful that can be said to them, they just do not understand economics. Two; immigration, Latinos are not as pro immigration as white woke people think. Trump won them because he promised to do something about it, compared to Democrats that seem like we just are paralyzed on the subject. Probably because we can not agree with each-other on what to do about this issue. Bulwark being a right wing organization obviously has their opinion, Dems need to be more willing to control immigration, concentrate on economic messages and be less willing to be dragged by republicans to defend woke issues.
Mona Charen can get a damn rash. She's said enough dehumanizing things over the course of her career that helped make Trump a reality that there is no high road for her to take.
I'm losing faith in electoral politics to help me. I'm shocked that an armed insurrection has not arisen against Trump yet.
No one here was ever looking for validation from you, Becky <shrugs> You're a poster, and you'll continue to be quoted by me as part of my dialogue with the rest of the board.
lol, losING... That's so 2024. No, electoral politics cannot help you. What suddenly hipped you to this?
