I'm calling this "scoop" damage control. But the damage control utterly sucks because it just goes back to my earlier point that, if Schumer lost control of the caucus during the biggest fight of the year, that's a damning indictment of his leadership -- and he needs to be ousted as minority leader.

The GOP wasn’t caving. They don’t care about the pain being inflicted on people and govt. Sure, poll numbers are going down. I don’t think they’ll rebound though.

Healthcare prices will spike. Hopefully people remember that Trump went out of his way to defund SNAP and hold up the legal process that told him repeatedly to fund it while also throwing a Gatsby party and tearing down the East Wing to build a gaudy new ballroom.

They could have kept the govt shut down the whole rest of the month, and GOP still would t offer anything more.

Plus, we will go right back into this stupid fight in a couple of months. This will come after everyone has realized their healthcare is unaffordable, among many other things.

 

It's fury! Fury and rage! Righteous furious rage!

 

Remember, the important thing is that Tim Kaine can now sleep well at night.

I'm flying to New Orleans late next week from Canada. I'm glad to see the shutdown possibly come to end for the selfish reason that I don't want my flights delayed/cancelled.

As an outsider, I don't understand why the Democrats caved. They aren't very good at politicking lately.

 

Maybe they should just elect a dem.

 

I so wanted Moosecare to be real.

I'm so disappointed it's not.

 

Real people were getting denied SNAP benefits, military weren’t getting paid, air traffic control either….. lots of others.

I too wish that they would have held out a bit longer, but at the same time I don’t see them getting anything different than what has happened.

I’m sure there were several more Dem senators that wanted to end the shut down. It is no coincidence that the exact number of defectors needed showed up, and they all happen to be retiring or not up for reelection until 2028 or beyond.

The stupid part is that after 40days, they didn’t have a legit script to hand to all these idiot senators like: “We fought, as you can see by the longest shut down in history. But we aren’t willing to play these political games at the cost of so much suffering of average Americans. We gave our Republican colleagues every opportunity to negotiate, and they refused. We agreed to a short term deal and to fully fund SNAP to feed those in need at this critical time, which the GOP apparently doesn’t care at all about. We’ll continue to fight, and we will pick this back up again in January, when America realizes the pain and suffering the GOP is willing to inflict on US citizens by raising your healthcare costs for no good reason.”

Instead, we got Angus “We lost. Trump won.” King. F********ing idiot.

 

He beat the Dem who ran against him.

 

Well, maybe they should just elect the Dem.

My view is, if Schumer doesn’t back a move to replace Durbin within, say, 48 hours, THEN I’ll agree with her. But give Schumer a couple of days just in case Durbin really went off on his own. Give Schumer that long to get his own caucus reorganized.

 

Protestors should start yelling outside his place in DC the earliest legal hour (unless it’s like 8am in which case it’s pointless) and not stop until they have to stop at night. Sleep through that, asshole.

They have leverage now with the holidays. Let the media talk of a gaudy ballroom and private parties while Americans go hungry over Thanksgiving. While first one, then more, planes fall out of the sky.

Let the country watch as Trump refuses to fund SNAP in direct contradiction of judicial orders.

Watch the economy grind to a halt. That's the leverage.

They have none of that in the new year.
