Same -- I sent that coward a strongly worded email this morning reminding him that the honorable thing to do is resign once Spanberger is sworn in since he is no longer serving the best interests of Virginians.
Just as soon as Trump honors the deal to stop firing Federal workers, I’m sure. So nice of Lucy to give them another chance to kick the football.
Sen. Angus King: "Standing up to Donald Trump didn't work" pic.twitter.com/Y751B5SajR— Aaron Rupar (@atrupar) November 10, 2025 Angus King: "Standing up to Donald Trump didn't work" There's a winning message, asshole. Go fcuk you mustache, Angus!
While Pelosi isn't super popular now, if she was minority leader in the Senate I can't imagine her allowing the Democrats to cave like this.
She wouldn't have allowed anyone caucusing with the party to go on cable news the next day and declare that "Standing up to Donald Trump didn't work"! That quote tells you all you need to know. There was no strategy here. There's just idiots being idiots. There was chatter last night about whether the Senate leadership tacitly allowed this. Angus King's shit messaging suggests they did not. It was just the most politically stupid members defecting. But that means the Senate leadership lost control of the caucus during the biggest fight of the year. That alone should be the end of Schumer.
And for those who say that Kaine needed to do this because of the large number of federal employees in VA, in MD the percentage of the workforce which are federal workers is almost double that of VA but neither of its senators voted to surrender.
I don't regularly read Matthew Yglesias because I do regularly find him insufferable. But his thinking today is interesting. https://www.slowboring.com/p/13-thoughts-on-the-end-of-the-shutdown In short, Yglesias's theory is that the cavers caved to save the filibuster. That's a reasonable theory. These idiots absolutely would do that.
As long the anachronism which is the US Senate exists as an equal legislative partner with the (theoretically) more representative House, this bullshit will continue. Defund and defenestrate the Senate.
Look at those old White people who have health insurance. Well Masto is half White, and at least Fetterman is in his 50s. Still, ******** em all!
Well, she was a master tactician, and a brilliant leader. Schumer is feckless, and should have been out as far back as 2016, at the latest.
The guy that wrote the complaint also said that, although the BBC had done a programme about Trump's attempt to overthrow a democratic decision on Jan 6, they hadn't produced a 'balancing' programme about Kamala Harris and... er... what she'd done which was.... er... 'mean'... or something. I mean, it was utterly laughable.
Shutdowns never look good for the party that's in charge though. Nor do they give the party (GOP) that shut it down what they want. And Trump is of course going to do something dumb that'll probably torpedo any arrangement.
It's the only reasonable interpretation, isn't it? The problem is that the democrats seem to lose by it most of the time.
AND the Dems JUST swept the Northern Virginia region in elections LAST WEEK. And the flipped several House districts around the state.
If Trump has the animal instinct for his enemy’s weakness that I think he does, he’ll spike the football and drive a wedge between those 6-8 moderates and the rest of the party.
He's going to mess it up because he saw a tweet making fun of his ballroom or the fact that he got booed by everyone at the Lions-Commanders game yesterday.
