Right now, both could beat Collins. Mills is the safe bet. Platner looks better in the polling, but there is more risk. Republicans are going to drop 20 to 40 million dollars on negative adds and opposition research, I am pretty sure Platner has more dirty laundry out there. We will see, because it is looking like Nazi tattoo boy will be our nominee.
https://www.themainewire.com/2025/1...ed-for-socialist-paramilitary-group-in-maine/ Yep, all the Nazi's I know teach people who support the LGBTQ community how to fire guns.
My favorite Rye if you ever get the chance is the Thomas Handy Sazerac Rye. It's a Buffalo Trace product, as part of their Antique Collection so it can be a little hard to find, but if you find it at a restaurant pull the trigger on it. You won't be disappointed.
EDIT: In retrospect it comes across a bit dickish. You asked why Mills is even a candidate. I answered. Maine's a state with an older voting population. Mills is an archetype Mainer. Right down to the age. Yes, the age is a thing but she's the best choice. Platner should have dropped soon as the Nazi tattoo got revealed. That he never got rid of it until it became a thing shows poor judgement among other things. It's also an incredibly obvious astroturf campaign.
Platner's also got the Reddit posting history with stuff ranging from racism, homophobia, and just being an asshole. He also said that rape victims should take responsibility. Three weeks out from the primary is when things will start getting serious. For now though, we've got three months to go.
Uhm, Zionism was a response to pogroms, the Jews suffered for centuries on end. The Holocaust was the Überpogrom.
no I didn’t. This is what I said: I asked if there is a reasonable candidate in between these two. … The question you wanted to answer. Not the one I asked. Nor did you address ANY of the other 3 questions I asked. Collins is also an archetype Mainer. What separates them in people’s minds, other than Mills is 5 years older and will be the oldest first-time senator by 5 years (set 3 years ago by another Dem)? I’m saying Mills and Platner are both terrible candidates. I refuse to accept that someone who is supposed to serve a 6yr term and sworn in at 80 is a good candidate, even if it was Obama. No. Just. No.
Collins has been impossible to beat up until now. There are two theories of the case on how to beat her. 1. Trump’s unpopularity is a huge problem for Republicans now, and is very likely to get worse as the war lingers on and oil prices go up and infect the whole economy. So the best way to beat Collins is with a noncontroversial choice, I.e., Mills. 2. Democrats have tried faceless nominees and they’ve struck out every time. Platner can change the equation, so he’s the best choice.
Hey man. We’re cool. I was just confused why you started stanning for Mills and poo-pooing Platner in response to me saying they are both bad candidates. I’m not angry. I’ve tried to keep a neutral tone, but I also see that my response could be seen as a “smack down.” That isn’t my intent. I honestly don’t have a preference between them, although I’d vote Mills if a gun were to my head. It is simply outstanding that the Dems had to drag someone out of a dignified retirement instead of any of the field of Dem legislators past and present younger than, say, 70? Is there a PTA mom they could have recruited?
It's because Platner calls genocides, ya know, genocides. Kazuma doesn't like any Democrat that does that. Wait until this forum hears about Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, who is running for Senate in Michigan. Primary is a little later so that's why his name hasn't popped up yet. You'll hear all of the AIPAC talking points against him coming out of his mouth.
Cool. Not stanning for Mills at all. Only pol I'll stan for is Obama. Anyway, Mills is the best of some bad options. I'm sure there are other younger pols but that we're not hearing about them is telling. And Platner is not someone I want in the Senate. For a lot of reasons.
Kaz has talked a lot about the Nazi tattoo issue, and also the racism and homophobia in his social media history. Kaz is against Nazis and racism and homophobia. But to you, it’s about AIPAC. You are coming across more and more as, if not an actual Nazi, the kind of person who wouldn’t get up and leave a table where everyone else is a Nazi. Which is a distinction with very little difference.
You like Platner because of his views on Gaza. Guarantee if he had favorable views of Israel you'd be whistling a different tune. And El-Sayed ain't winning the Senate primary*. I have a better chance of dating Aubrey Plaza. *: Remind me, how'd he do in the 2018 government primary?
While I really like the positive "Life, Liberty and Pursuit of Happiness" message someone keeps mentioning here, I would also channel the 'No Kings' energy into some well-dosed outrage against the cleptocracy on all the matters mentioned above. Healthcare: "Down with the mad king that doesn't care for your health! He doesn't care because he and his billionaire cronies don't feel your pain. They want to cut your health care to become even richer." Immigration: "Republicans only care about immigrants that don't serve or f*ck them. Look at the Mar-A-Lago staff. Look at the FLOTUS. They are not just racists - they are corrupt hypocrites that only care about their own enrichment." Corruption: "You thought the Clintons and Bidens were corrupt? Wait till you hear about Trump!" Crime: "Before we talk crime in the neighborhood, let's talk about the criminals all the way on the top, laundering their grifted money through crypto currency. Down with the cleptocracy! Lock up the kingpins! " Democracy: "Stop campaign donations of corporations and corrupt billionaires! Stop the corrupt PACs! They are all out there to buy your votes! We shall not be brought!!!" Added bonus on this messaging: If you campaign on going after the corruption of the current cronies, it won't be seen as partisan retaliation when you actually do it after a win.
One of the interesting aspects of Platner as a candidate is that people are complaining about him having made comments about being a communist AND also having a nazi tattoo. I'd suggest people who don't like him need to 'pick a lane' But I think all that indicates is that he's a more 'high risk' candidate than is ideal. Personally, I don't think the 'nazi tattoo' thing is particularly plausible for the reasons I've given but that doesn't mean it won't be pushed aggressively by those that don't like him which is a consideration when it comes to elections. I think his strength is that his 'narrative' seems believable and probably pretty relatable for a lot of voters. Like I said before, most of the voters are reddit, (or FB or twitter), shitposters who have either got, (or thought of getting), an inappropriate tattoo when they were drunk so he'll fit right in with most of them That was the point about Hannah Spencer, who was a plumber and plasterer and yet beat out labour, the tories AND reform for the Gorton by-election. I've known a few plumbers and plasterers in my time and it's never occurred to me to that 'THIS is the fella* I want helping to run the country' People like that seem 'normal'... well relatively. That's part of the thing with Trump. It's actually quite redolent of Queen Victoria's comment about Gladstone, who she disliked. She once said, 'He addresses me as if I were a public meeting' She much preferred his rival, Benjamin Disraeli, who flattered her and was attentive. * All the ones I've known have been men.
