Stop calling it socialism and refer to it as the social Christian-Judea foundation of American civilization.
I wouldn't try and put any figures on it but the important thing is that the reason why the US doesn't have some form of universal healthcare ISN'T because it's 'big'. That's nothing to do with it.
That’s great and all but it doesn’t bode well for the future of democracy in this country. And yes, I take it a little personally. What it sounds like to my old ears is, not only do we not have any respect for what you old Dems spent your lives fighting for, we actually blame you for this failed system and so, not only are we not going to support you but we want to burn it all down and build something completely new, and revolutionary, a whole new system that works for us! And then there’s the political reality here in the USA. We’re quickly running out of time.
America loves socialism. For the rich. For the enlisted. For the White. What America doesn't love is socialism for all. From Eugene V Debs 4th of July speech in 1901: A little over a century ago the inhabitants of this country were not citizens. They were ruled by a foreign king. They petitioned for relief. Their petitions were disregarded. They objected to taxation without representation. Their protests were scorned. Finally they revolted. They issued the Declaration of Independence and enunciated the proposition that men are created equal. But the founders of this republic had only vague conceptions of democracy. The working class as we understand it today were not represented in the Constitutional Convention. The founders of the republic in declaring that men were created equal evidently meant themselves alone. They did not include the negro, who had been brought here against his will and had been reduced to a state of abject slavery. The institution of chattel slavery was already securely established at that time. It was founded in iniquity, yet it did not seemingly disturb the consciences of the founders of the republic. This institution was in conflict with the spirit of the Declaration, with the genius of free institutions, and yet it was incorporated in them. It steadily grew in power, and in course of time it controlled the country and the courts and the life of the people.
I hate to be the one reminding you but America doesn’t love socialism. Not really. What part of the country do you live in?
It's like claiming you can't have car insurances because the USA is so big ... so many cars ... whatever.
Sorry to hit you with a stumper. Don’t over think this. Suffice to say whatever socialist bubble you call home, it’s not reflective of the prevailing attitudes about this, here in MAGA America. And the likelihood of this changing anytime soon? It’s not in the stars.
BERN-IE! BERN-IE! BERN-IE! Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) is feeling emboldened by progressives' shock victory in a New Jersey special House primary last week — and sizing up his next targets. Why it matters: The senator has endorsed over a dozen progressive House and Senate candidates who are aiming to reshape the Democratic Party. https://www.axios.com/2026/02/11/bernie-sanders-mejia-left-primaries-new-jersey
I actually live in one of the OG counties that switched in a big way for Trump. One of the most economically ravaged places by globalization in the country. You ever hear of Youngstown? Traficant was Trump before Trump was Trump.
So, if you step outside your front door, *boom* you're in MAGA America and the red hats are in the ascendancy. How do you look at what's happening politically in Youngstown and think "damn, the time is ripe for socialist revolution?" And what about this idea of not supporting the Dems, intentionally, so as to accelerate the pace of change? Is that something you've ever heard of?
Can we get a primer or a white paper or something? What are the benefits, what does it actually do for people, and how much will it cost and how will it be paid for, you know, just a brief overview. Oh, and if it could help bring down the national debt in some significant way, hell I might even be convinced. We're going to need to start thinking seriously about that at some point here (looks like the red team forgot all about it, again), where are we now, $38-40 trillion in debt??
$38.59 trillion and growing by about $75,000 per second. Annual net interest payments about to hit $1 trillion. This could become a problem. Debt Dashboard - U.S. Congress Joint Economic Committee
Most of the Blame. Would go to Congress. They are supposed to be part of the much vaunted Balance of government. They and the SCOTUS could have stopped this dead. But nooo. How many of them were blackmailed into submission with whispers in their ears about an island in the virgin isles. the ones who voted him in are the rich or the poor dumb shits.
You really are moderate, because Republicans only care about the deficit when Democrats are in charge. I guess we just vote in Democrats again to clean up the mess like we always do. If we provide universal Medicare and cut the defense budget in half since we don't have to protect NATO anymore is that socialism?
Sorry. Fixed. If we provide universal Medicare and cut the defense budget in half since we don't have to protect NATO anymore is that the New Deal 2: Electric Boogaloo?
That was my point and boy do they go on about it. Over these last two Trump admins, barely a peep as it continues to skyrocket. Neither side seems very interested in tackling it. Annual interest on all this debt has now actually surpassed $1 trillion and it's projected to double in a decade.
You call yourself a Democrat yet you're convinced that vaguely defined socialist programs rather than reckless tax cuts are the problem. This is why it's hard to take your endless bloviating about "socialism" seriously.
Our defense budget will almost certainly go up if we pull out of NATO and lose access to all those bases. I mean--it will likely go up regardless; but we'll actually NEED to spend more. (I know that wasn't your point).
a) I am a Democrat b) What vaguely defined socialist programs are you referring to? c) I've stated a couple of times recently that I'm all for taxing the rich d) My concern with socialism is that it diminishes Democrats chances of winning national elections. Mine is a call for uniting the left in the face of the current situation.
