Yeah, I feel the same. When I read the thread-title yesterday I thought to myself "Woohoo, finally a great thread again!".
Dieter Bohlen may be completely talentless, but he gives a great interview! I don't begrudge him his celebrity status, because as a celebrity he is entertaining. By the same token, I think there is a direct correlation between the modern players' wet-blanket personalities and their boring nicknames. I mean, guys like Schweinsteiger, Podolski and Ballack are dull as dishwater. I think it's only fitting that their nicknames are dull too. Whereas Kahn, an interesting guy, has a correspondingly interesting nickname. So I think there are fewer good nicknames today because there are fewer interesting players.
Arrgh. I meant Solskjaer of course not Ljungberg! AlexK: dunno. The only teenagers I talk to are first year undergrads at UCL and they are ok. Oh, and on here pepper of course. Anyway I am more worried about the fact that Harald S is so popular, but I think we disagreed about this before...
Although he's Bosnian and not German, Bayern's Hasan Salihamidzic has the affectionate nickname of "Brazzo" (little brother).
"Air" Riedle is another one I remember from the 90's. (It's so cheesy I love it). "Super Mario" Basler. "Der Blonde Engel" for Bernd Schuster. Bernd "Der weiße Brasilianer" Schneider.
We still lack nicknames for Dutch players! Maybe it's because Dutch people tend to be too serious? And no, I am not joking (luckily my wife is an exception).
Hmm wasnt that Ansgar Brinkmann? Wich leads to another german player who was called Pelé...do you know who it was?
Probably I just wish that historians would finally become celebreties - I still can't play an instrument, which will probably keep me away from a rockstar career, so I need another option . Sooooo true! I was saying the same on here just before the WC . Well, except for the Kahn part...
bergkamp - the non flying dutchman lee clark - jigsaw julian dicks - the terminator but my favourite is paul dickov - bobbit yeah, or putting "super" in front of their first name. boring innit.
You just made that up yourself. Good one though. Now he needs to be abducted to make it really work. Pity noone will pay the ransom.
Spucker, sexual innuendo? Hmm. Whatever floats your boat I guess. I thought he is more widely know as Rijkaard the Llama? So we have a few Dutch nicknames now. Good.
Nice idea, Gregoriak. I'm going to make a thread on Italian nicknames on the Italian board. Here's another Dutch one: Marco van Basten - San Marco, Marco Golo and the Swan of Utrecht
it seems like the english call everyone gazza or wazza or something with the last four letters being a-z-z-a. also dont forget the unique "Klinsi" although i guess Grinsi Klinsi
